Hurban Runs Away from the Rest of the Field in Modified Stableford Tournament

In the special event of the week, Jack Hurban won going away, with by far the most points in our Modified Stableford Tournament.  Jack posted 3 net eagles and a net double eagle for a record score of +24 points for the event.  Runner-up honors went to Jordan Anderson with +7 points, which is a good score in most years.  RK Bair finished 3rd with +5 points, and Janice Lowry came in fourth, winning the tie-breaker over two other players with a score of +2 points for the round.  With one week left in the 2025 season, the second-half flight races are still up for grabs.  Use the links on this page to check out where you stand in your flight, and to see the Skins game and Special Event results from Week 17 of league play.

Our end-of-year outing is set for Bedford Trails Golf Course in Coitsville, OH on Saturday, September 27, with a 1:30 pm start.  We are still working out the details for the meal at the course, and will let everyone know if the guest fee for the meal will be $20 or $15 (it's looking like $20 right now, but that has not been officially confirmed).  League members do not pay for the meal after golf.  We'll stay at Bedford Trails for our meal and prizes galore!  Should be a fun way to finish off the 2025 season.

Goodemote Routs Captain Bogey to Take the Top Spot in the Special Event of the Week

In this week's fun event, each player took on Captain Bogey in match play, and Shannon Goodemote took the Captain to the woodshed in her match, whipping him by a score of 9 up to take top honors for the week.  Luke Cimoric also posted a 9 up victory over the Captain, but finished second due to the handicap tiebreaker.  Carol Osborne finished in third place with an 8 up match win over Captain Bogey, and four players beat the Captain 7 up; by virtue of the handicap tie-breaker, Tristan Vecheren took fourth place in the event.  To see all results from the week, use the links on this page.

Only two weeks are left in the 2025 season, and the flight races are up for grabs.  Whoever finishes in the top three spots in each flight will be determined by who plays best down the stretch.  Bring your best game to the course and finish strong the next two weeks!

Lowry Wins The Elimination Challenge as Flight Races Tighten in the 2nd Half

The weather was very hot once again on both Monday and Tuesday for Week # 14 action in The Keg Golf League.  The standings in several of the flights changed this week.  In the Special Event of the week, The Elimination Challenge, there were 3 players who made it through all 9 holes without being eliminated, so they are ranked by their net totals for the round.  Jim Lowry was the winner of the Elimination Challenge for 2025, firing a 3-under-par net score of 33.  Jack Hurban carded a net score of two-under 34 to finish in the second position.  Tom Hinkson posted a net 38 score to take third place.  Blase Cindric finished fourth, surviving the first 8 holes but being eliminated with his net bogey on # 9.  Use the links on this page to view all results of league matches, the Skins Games and the Special Event of the Week.

Many Fairways Were Missed Off the Tee this Week as Bair Wins Special Event

Congratulations to Zach Bair, who did not hit even one fairway out of 7 for his league round this week and won the top prize in the special fun event – the only time that missing fairways helps you!  Dean Osborne finished in 2nd place, also hitting 0 out of 7 fairways in his round; the handicap tie-breaker was used to determine that Zach was 1st and Dean was 2nd.  Chris Groscost finished 3rd and Justin Kraynak took 4th place by winning the handicap tie-breaker among the three league members who hit 1 of 7 fairways for their round.

With five more weeks left in the second half of the 2025 season, the races for the top three spots in each flight are still up for grabs.  You can view all the results of this week's play on the league's web site.  If you don't have a back-nine golf out in the bank, remember that you can submit a golf-out score for that nine by Sunday of this week to count for your Week # 13 score.

Goodemote Scores Closest to 28 on the 28th of July

The super hot weather kept some league members away early this week, but there still were some good scores that were turned in by league members for Week 12 of the season.  In the special event for Week 12, Mike Goodemote won the tie-breaker for the top prize after shooting a net score of 29 after the first 7 holes of the round.  There were 2 other league members who also had a net score that was one stroke away from 28 after 7 holes in their Monday or Tuesday rounds, and the finishing positions were determined by the handicap tie-breaker rules.  Tom Hinkson took this week's runner-up spot, and Dean Osborne finished in third place.  Heather Shuttleworth won the tie-breaker among the three league members whose scores were 2 strokes away from 28 for the first seven holes of their rounds.  You can use the links at the top and/or right side of this page to see all the week's results and the current standings in all the flights.

Save the date:  our End-of-Season Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, September 27 at Bedford Trails Golf Course in Coitsville, OH.  Information will be communicated as we get closer to the end of the 2025 season.

Bair makes a Hole-In-One on Death Valley; Anderson Takes Top Spot in Special Event

There were many net bogeys or worse made early in the round this week; only six players who played on Monday and Tuesday made it past hole # 11 without making a net bogey at the start of their rounds, and only four of them made it past hole # 14 without carding a net bogey.  Jim Anderson and Blase Cindric both had a streak of 8 holes without making a net bogey before doing that on # 18; Jim wins the event via the handicap tiebreaker, and Blase finishes as runner-up this week.  Brennan Lowry took third place and Bob Walters was fourth, both carding six straight holes without a net bogey in their rounds.

RK Bair had a day to remember on Tuesday, recording a Hole-In-One on Tam O'Shanter's Death Valley hole, # 14. Congratulations, RK!!!  That's the third hole-in-one in league play that we know about — the other two both happened in 2004 (Ron Hunter made an ace on # 14 on May 25, 2004, and George McConnell dunked his tee shot on # 8 on June 29 of that same year).   Check out all the results from this week's play on our league web site.

Second Half of Season gets underway; Goodemote wins Fewest Putts Event

The first week of the 2nd half of the season featured hot weather and some hot scores that were turned in by league members.  In the special event on July 14 & 15, three players used only 15 putts, and those three won the top 3 prizes for the week, based on the handicap tiebreaker.  Mike Goodemote was the winner this week; Tom Hinkson finished second, and Brennan Lowry was third.  Mike George took fourth place with 16 putts via the handicap tiebreaker.

We start over with everyone having 0 points going into Week # 10 in their flight, and we have some new flight leaders as the second half of the season begins.  You can view the gross scores, net skins, special event results, Hole-of-the-Week Club and Eagles Club information by using the links at the top and/or right-side of the league home page.

First Half Flight Results are Final — Congratulations to the Winners!

All Week 9 golf-outs have been submitted, and the first half results for The Keg Golf League are now official.  Congratulations are in order for the winners of each flight:

  • Flight A:  Blase Cindric
  • Flight B:  Tie:  Paula Lawrence and Mary Rose Marks
  • Flight C:  RK Bair
  • Flight D:  Shannon Goodemote
  • Flight E:  Dean Osborne
  • Flight F:  Zach Bair

The top three finishers in each flight in each half of the season win a prize that will be distributed at the End Of Season outing in September.  Click on the "Standings" link at the top of the page and then check out the link for July 7 to see the final standings for the first half in all of the flights.

We'll start the second half of the season tomorrow, and we've taken the handicaps that will be in use for week 10 to place players in flights, so you may be in a different flight for the second half than you were in for the first half of the season.  CLICK HERE to see your flight for the second half.

We're going to try a rule change for the second half of this year's season:  men 80 years of age and older can hit from the RED tee markers for their league rounds, and women 80 years of age and older can hit from the ORANGE (Junior) tee markers for their league rounds.  Since handicaps are calculated every week, things should balance out for our flight matches and other events that use net scores.  Several people have asked about this, so we'll give it a try starting with Week # 10 of the season.

All of the results from Week 9 play can be viewed on the league web site.  Good luck as we start the second half of league competition.

First Half of Season ends with exciting action in all Flights

The July 7 & 8 rounds of play in The Keg Golf League marked the end of the first half of the 2025 season.  The top three finishers in each flight win a prize to be distributed at the end-of-season outing in September.  The winners in each flight won't be officially determined until this Sunday night, because league members have until then to submit a golf-out score for the week if they didn't play on Monday or Tuesday.  Click on the "Standings" link at the top of the page and then check out the link for July 7 to see the unofficial standings for the first half.  In Week 9's special event, Michelle Kraynak won the first place prize with a net birdie on hole # 18 to post 19 points, taking the top spot by virtue of the handicap tie-breaker.  Mary Rose Marks, Brennan Lowry and Luke Cimoric finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively, based on the tie-breaker; each of them also made a net birdie on # 18.

See you on Sunday for our Mid-Season Outing!  It'll be a 2:00 pm shotgun start for our 18-hole scramble, with our picnic supper to follow the golf.  Let's have a great day and get ready for the second half of league competition.

Shuttleworth Partners With Old Man Par to Take Top Honors in the Special Event for Week 8

With only one week to go in the first half of the 2025 season, the races in most of the flights are still up for grabs, so next week promises to be exciting as the first half flight winners are determined.  Be sure to play this coming Monday or Tuesday, or have a back-nine golf-out score turned in for the last week of the first half!

Heather Shuttleworth teamed up with Old Man Par to shoot a better-ball net score of 29 to win this week's fun event; Carol Osborne finished in second place with a score of 31 strokes.  Shannon Goodemote and Michelle Kraynak finished third and fourth, respectively, with team scores of 32, winning the tie-breaker against the other player who also had a score of 32.  There were two more gross eagles recorded by players in the Eagles Club this week; congratulations to Jim Anderson for his eagle 2 on Hole # 1, and to Jordan Anderson for his eagle 3 on # 7!  To see the latest results from the league, use the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

The Mid-Season Outing / Field Day for our league will be Sunday, July 13 at Tam O'Shanter.  We will be playing an 18-hole Scramble with a 2:00 pm shotgun start, followed by a picnic dinner after the conclusion of the golf.  A sign-up booklet will be at the front counter at Tam O'Shanter, and is available even if you golf-out — please sign the booklet and indicate whether you will be coming for both golf and dinner, for dinner only, or if you won't be able to attend the outing this year.  Guests are welcome for $15, and you can indicate that you will be having a guest or guests on the sign-up sheet as well.  Should be a lot of fun, so make plans to be there!  PLEASE let us know soon if you will be attending — thank you.

Bahr wins Sudden-Death Playoff on 2nd Hole

The special event this week was a Sudden-Death Playoff involving everyone in the league who played on Monday or Tuesday, starting on # 10.  On the first hole of the round, three players carded net eagles, knocking everyone else out of contention for winning the playoff.  On hole # 11, JoAnn Bahr made a net birdie to take the top spot; Janice Lowry made a net par to finish in 2nd place, and Mike Goodemote made a net bogey to come in third.  Of the three players that made a net birdie on # 10, Michelle Goodemote had the best score on # 11 with a net par and as a result took fourth place.  You can view all results from the June 23rd and 24th round by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

Congratulations go out to Jordan Anderson, who made a gross eagle 3 on Hole # 13!  That's the second gross eagle made by members of the Eagles Club in 2025.

The date and location of our Mid-Season Outing is Sunday, July 13 at Tam O'Shanter.  More details will be shared later this week via e-mail about this fun league event.  Save the date!

Osborne's Hot Putter Results in the Most One-Putt Greens This Week

Dean Osborne was one of two league members who had 4 one-putt greens on June 16, and he takes the first place prize in this week's Fun Special Event by virtue of the handicap tiebreaker.  Dave Shoenfelt also had four one-putt greens and finished in second place.  There were 4 league members who had 3 one-putt greens, so the handicap tie-breaker was used to determine third and fourth places:  Tony Curic came in 3rd and Jim Lowry finished 4th.  All of the results from Week 6 of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

Mark your calendars — our Mid-Season Outing / Field Day will be held on Sunday, July 13 at Tam O'Shanter.  We'll have an afternoon shotgun start for the golf, followed by food and fun.  More details about the outing will be announced in the next several weeks, so stay tuned.

Bair Posts Most Gross and Net 5's in Week 5

The first half of the season is now more than half complete, and the flight races are taking shape but are still up for grabs.  RK Bair was the winner of this week's special fun event, having the most gross and net 5's on his scorecard, with eight of them.  Two players had seven 5's for the round this week, so the handicap tie-breaker was used to determine 2nd and 3rd places in the special event.  Janice Schwanbeck took 2nd place for the week and Brennan Lowry finished 3rd.  Mike George took the 4th place prize by virtue of the handicap tie-breaker among the four players who had six gross and net 5's on their Week # 5 scorecard.  All of the results from Week 5 of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

The date and location of our Mid-Season Outing is Sunday, July 13 at Tam O'Shanter.  More details will be shared in the next couple of weeks about this fun league event.  Save the date!

George Wins Best Poker Hand Event with Five of a Kind

We had some great weather for a change this week, which led to some low scores shot by league members.  In the Special Event this week, five players carded five net 5's to post the best poker hands for anyone who played on Monday or Tuesday, so the handicap tiebreaker was used to determine the four prize winners for the week. Mike George finished in the top spot, with Carol Osborne taking second place, Marla Nardo finished third, and Michelle Goodemote was fourth.  The competition for the top spots in each the flights is really going strong as we move into the heart of the 2025 season.

To see the Hole-of-the-Week Club standings, the poker hands made from the net scores of everyone who played their league round on Monday or Tuesday, and all other results of week # 4 of league play, use the links at the top or at the right side of this page.

League Dues are now overdue, and there are about seven league members who haven't paid yet.  You can't win a prize until you pay your dues, so please do so this week.  Thank you.

We had a slight warmup on Memorial Day; Osborne wins Special Event of the Week

After three weeks of league play in 2025, we are well underway with the golf season.  Each flight is competitive, and the lead changed hands in a couple of the flights this week.  Be sure to turn in golf-outs for the weeks you can't play on Monday or Tuesday.

Dick Osborne won the special event for the week, with a score of 19 after throwing out his two worst net holes.  Second place went to Dean Osborne, who also posted 19 strokes not counting his two worst holes but lost the handicap tiebreaker to Dick.  Jack Hurban and Blase Cindric both had scores of 23 for the special event, with Jack taking third place and Blase finishing in fourth.  The first gross eagle of the season by a member of the Eagles Club was made this week – congratulations to Blase Cindric for his eagle 2 on hole # 17.  All of the results from the third week of league play can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

For our next league round, scheduled for Monday, June 2, we will have a special shot-gun start at 5:15 pm for our league play on the front nine, because Tam O'Shanter is closed until 5:00 pm for a large golf outing that day.  The shotgun start should be fun – try to attend!  But if you can't play at that time on 6/2, you can always play your league round on Tuesday, 6/3, or you can turn in a back-nine golf-out score for the week anytime before Sunday, June 8.

Most Flight Races Tight after Two Weeks; Cindric wins Fewest Putts Event

The standings in all six flights are really close after the first two weeks of league play, with the first place player in five of the flights only ahead by half a point, and the leader in flight E, Dean Osborne, leading his flight by one point.  In our league, it really hurts you if you miss a week of league play without turning in a golf-out score, so be sure to golf out during those weeks that you can't make it on Monday or Tuesday for league play.  You can also bank golf-out scores in advance if you know that you'll have to miss on a particular league day.

The special event for the week was fewest putts, and Blase Cindric and Dale Murawski outpaced the field on the greens in Week 2 action.  Blase used only 11 putts for his 9 holes, edging out Dale by two putts for the top spot in the contest.  Zach Bair took 3rd place by carding only 14 putts for his round, and Patti Noble took 4th place via the handicap tiebreaker among the 2 players who used 15 putts to complete their league rounds.  Use the links at the top or right-hand side of the page to see all the results from Week # 2 of league play.

This coming Monday is Memorial Day, and it will be a normal league play day for us.  Tam O'Shanter has arranged for us to pay the regular weekday rate if we start our round after noon, so make your plans to celebrate the holiday on the links!  If you can't make it that day to play, you can play on Tuesday, May 27, or use a golf-out score that you have in the bank or one that you turn in later in the week.

Season Opens with Decent Weather; Goodemote is the Most Accurate Driver in Week # 1

The weather was actually pretty nice on May 12 & 13 for the opening round of play in The Keg Golf League for 2025.  In the special event of the week, Shannon Goodemote was one of five league members who hit 6 of 7 fairways with their tee shots for the round, and she took the top spot by virtue of the handicap tiebreaker.  Zach Bair, Patti Noble and Dick Osborne won the handicap tiebreakers for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place, respectively, also hitting 6 of 7 fairways for their rounds.  You can view the gross and net scores and skins game results, along with the special event results, Eagle's Club and Hole-of-the-Week Club information, and the season-long statistical summary by using the links at the top and/or right-side of the league home page.

We will calculate new handicaps after each week of league play, so you can see what your handicap will be for next week by clicking on the "Handicaps for Week 2" link in the right-hand column of the league home page.

The Skins Game and Special Event results are final, because you must play on league days to be in those games.  However, the flight standings aren't finalized until all league members have a chance to turn in a golf-out score for the week.  If you play a round on the same nine as we played that week (week 1 was on the back nine) you can turn in a score for the week as long as you do it by Sunday night of the week you missed.  You can also turn in scores in advance to be put in the golf-out bank if you know you'll be missing a week in the future.  Just leave your scorecard with the staff at the front desk at Tam O'Shanter.  If you don't turn in a golf-out score for a week you missed, we'll use the lowest score you have in the golf-out bank for that nine (if you have one).

Ready for the Start of the Season on May 12 and 13

The 2025 Keg Golf League season gets underway this Monday, May 12.  Since the weather was very rainy earlier this week, not all new players have played at least two practice rounds, so we don't have enough information to set up the starting handicaps for all players and place people in flights yet.  We will do that after everyone has played their practice rounds this weekend prior to the start of the season.  All players will be placed in a flight with players of comparable handicaps.   We will adjust handicaps each week based on the previous week's score, but you will stay in the same flight for the entire first half of the season.

We will start the season on the Back Nine at Tam O'Shanter for the first week of league play.  The weather forecast looks pretty good for Monday and Tuesday, so hopefully we'll have a good turnout of players for the season's first week.  Good luck to one and all, and let's get off to a great start this year!

May9

Second Practice Round Scheduled for May 5/6

We're ready for our second practice round this week at Tam O'Shanter.  Please turn in your scorecard so we can calculate handicaps for the start of the season.  If you know of anyone who's thinking of joining the league this year, please encourage them to play practice rounds so they will have a handicap for the first weeks of league play.

We're continuing the season-long optional competition in the league this year called the Hole-of-the-Week Club.  If you want to play, it's only $18 for the whole season (that's just $1 a week).  Each week, one of the holes in your nine will be designated as the Hole of the Week, and we'll record your net score on that hole (after handicap strokes are deducted) in the book.  At the end of the season, the players with the lowest total for the Holes of the Week will split the pot!  How many places we pay out will be based on how many people participate.  Here are the holes of the week for each week:

May 12/13:   Hole # 10 June 23/24:   Hole # 13 Aug 4/5:   Hole # 16
May 19/20:   Hole # 1 Jun 30/Jul 1:   Hole # 4 Aug 11/12:   Hole # 7
May 26/27:   Hole # 11 July 7/8:   Hole # 14 Aug 18/19:   Hole # 17
June 2/3:   Hole # 2 July 14/15:   Hole # 5 Aug 25/26:   Hole # 8
June 9/10:   Hole # 12 July 21/22:   Hole # 15 Sept 1/2:   Hole # 18
June 16/17:   Hole # 3 Jul 28/29:   Hole # 6 Sept 8/9:   Hole # 9

Since we're using net scores, everyone has a good chance to win this, especially higher handicap players.  Why not give it a shot this year and join the fun?!?

If you've paid your league dues already, thank you! Don't forget that league dues must be paid by May 26.

First Practice Round is this coming week (April 28 & 29)

We will have two practice rounds for the golf league before actual competition starts this year. This gives everyone a chance to turn in some scores to establish a start-of-season handicap, and to get back into the swing of things.  If you play practice rounds, your handicap for the start of the season will be determined half from your handicap at the end of last year + 2, and half from the practice rounds you play.  Our first practice round is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of this coming week, April 28 and 29.  We will be on the Back Nine for the first practice round.  Make plans to play, turn in your scorecard, and reconnect with your friends in the golf league (or if you can't play on Monday or Tuesday, turn in a golf-out score if you play later in the week).

If you are new to the league this year, please plan to play and establish some scores for your handicap at the start of the year.  If you can't play on Mondays or Tuesdays the next two weeks, be sure to golf out.  See you at the course!

Time to get ready for the 2025 Golf League Season!

Now that we are about halfway through the month of April and the weather will (hopefully) start to get better, we can think about our golf league for the year.  We' plan to have plenty of great prizes for our weekly fun games this year as we have done in past years.

Here's some information about the start of the 2025 season:  we'll have two practice round weeks starting with the April 28/29 first practice round, with the second practice round being May 5/6.  New members must play two 9-hole practice rounds before May 12 to establish a handicap for use in Week 1 of league play.  The first week of league play for the season will take place on May 12 and 13.  Remember that you can play your league round and participate in all games including the Skins Games and the Special Event of the Week if you play on either Monday or Tuesday each week.

If you know of anyone who would would have fun by playing in our league, please share our e-mail address and web site with them.  We're looking for new members, so your help is appreciated. See you soon at the course!
