Only One Week Remains In Season; Hull Takes Top Honors in 33-24-15 Tourney

The top spot in four of the five flights is still up for grabs heading into the last week of the season.  Kian Richards has clinched first place in Flight E for the second half, but the leaders in the other flights can still be overtaken in the last week of league play.  In this week's fun event, Jessie Hull scored a net birdie on # 18 to earn 6 points and take first place away from Jeff Baughman, who made a net par on # 18 for 9 points to finish one point back in the runner-up slot.  To see all the Week 17 league results, use the links on this page.

Our end-of-season outing is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Greens of Greenville.  Tee times range from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm, in 10-minute increments.  Please let Blase know if you will be playing that day or not, so the scramble teams can be formed and things can be set up ahead of time.  Looks like it will be a great day of golf and fun.  Watch your e-mail for more details to come.

Many Fairways Missed on a Night of Great Weather

Congratulations to Paula Cantalupe and Dave U'Halie, who tied for first place in this week's fun event, missing 6 out of 7 fairways for the round and winning the tie-breaker with three other players – this is the only time that missing fairways helps you!  Many thanks go to Jim Stevenson for hosting the great cookout at his home after our league round!

The final handicap revision has been made for the remainder of the season.  To see the handicaps that will be used for weeks 16, 17 and 18, CLICK HERE.

Hull Partners With Old Man Par to Take Top Honors in Special Event of the Week

At the mid-point of the second half of the season, the leaders in four of the five flights have a lead of less than 2 points, and no flight leader has a lead of more than 4 points, so plenty of changes in the standings are possible as the season continues.  Jessie Hull partnered with Old Man Par to shoot a better-ball net score of 32 to win the week's fun event; Ben Van Verth was runner-up with a net team score of 33.  To see the latest results from the league, use the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

Eight Players Avoid Elimination As Flight Races Take Shape

There were eight players who survived all nine holes without being eliminated from the week's special event.  Of those players, Ben Van Verth had the lowest net total score for the round, shooting a blistering 28.  Dave Shoenfelt was runner-up with a red-hot 29 of his own.  Ken Johnston made the first eagle of the season, with a sweet 3 on # 13.  Nearing the midway point of the second half of the season, no flight leader has more than a 2 point lead, so the races are heating up!  Use the links at the top and/or right side of this page to see all of the results for the August 6 round of league play.

Stevenson Closest to 30 on the 30th

Each of the flights has an interesting race after week 12 of league play.  Plenty of change in the standings is possible in the remaining six weeks of league action.  Jim Stevenson and Jeff Hull took first and second place in the week's special event (closest to 30 net strokes after 7 holes on 7/30).  Use the links at the top and/or right side of this page to see all the week's results.

Handicaps have been revised after the first three weeks of the second half of the season.  You will stay in the same flight for the entire second half, but your handicap may have changed.  To see the new handicaps that will be used for weeks 13, 14 and 15, CLICK HERE.

Richards Wins Sudden-Death Playoff on 2nd Hole as Second Half Gets Under Way

As the second half of the 2013 season got started, the following players jumped out to the lead in their flights in the first week:  Ken Johnston in the A flight, Rick Manilla in flight B, Jeff Hull and Ryan Snyder in the C flight, Dave U'Halie in flight D, and Veronica Gardner in flight E.

The special event of the week was a Sudden-Death Playoff involving everyone in the league who played on Tuesday night, starting on # 1. On the first hole, there were only two players who carded net birdies:  Virginia Peterson and Kian Richards.  So those two players were guaranteed to finish in the top two spots in the playoff, which continued on to # 2, where Kian made another net birdie to win the event, while Virginia made a net bogey to finish as runner-up in the playoff.  You can view all results from the July 16th round by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

Inaugural Mid-Season Scramble is a Hit

Everyone said that the nine-hole scramble we had tonight was lots of fun, so we'll probably make it an annual mid-season event.  The team of Annette Manilla, Karen Reed, Dave U'Halie and Blase Cindric were the winners, with a score of 31, winning a scorecard playoff with a birdie on hole # 1.  Jeanne Endicott, Veronica Gardner, Don Reed and Alan Endicott finished in second place, also with a 31, with a par on # 1.  Third place went to Virginia Peterson, Pat Cindric, Jim Stevenson and Art Dye with a score of 33.  CLICK HERE to see the scores for all the teams.

All Systems "Go" for Mid-Season Scramble

On Tuesday, July 2, we'll hold the first-ever Mid-Season Scramble.  Please arrive at the course by 5:15 pm, and we'll form the teams at that time and go out to our tees for a shotgun start by 5:20 or so.  There will be three different tees, based on your league handicap — we'll play from the normal white tees, gold tees moved up to where the reds usually are, and red tees that are moved forward of where they are for normal play.  Each player will be told the tees he or she is playing from before the round starts.

We'll have closest to the pin contests and longest putt contests on each hole, with men and women both eligible for each prize on each hole.  It'll be closest to the pin on the team's third shot on #3 and #7, closest to the pin in 1 on #2 and #8, and closest in two shots on all the other holes.  Should be a lot of fun — be sure to play this Tuesday in this fun event.

Violent Storms Wash Out June 25 Round

Severe thunderstorms blew through the area tonight about 5:15 pm, and the threat of continued bad weather all evening caused the night's action to be called a rain-out.  In consultation with the 12 or so league members who were at the course, we've decided to extend the season a week, so we don't lose a week of league play.  The new schedule is as follows:

  • July 2: Mid-Season Scramble
  • July 9: Last Week of First Half of Season
  • July 16: First Week of Second Half of Season
  • Sept 10: Last Week of Second Half of Season

Watch your e-mail for news about the upcoming inaugural Not Just Bogeys Mid-Season Scramble.

Hull, Van Verth Avoid Trouble; Many Skins are Won

In this week's Special Fun Event, there were eight players who did not land in a hazard even once during their round.  According to league rules, ties in special events are broken by league handicap, with higher handicaps beating lower handicaps.  So, there was a tie for first place in the special event between Jessie Hull and Ben Van Verth.  We'll add up the prize money for first and second and then split it in half, so Jessie and Ben will each win a $10 Tam O'Shanter Gift Certificate.

Nine different players won at least one Skin this week — check out the winners by using the navigation links at the top and/or right-hand sides of this page.

Remember that you can turn in golf-out scores for any Tuesday rounds you miss at the front desk at Tam O'Shanter any time before Sunday night of the week you missed.  Just tell the person at the desk to put the scorecard in the golf-out box.  Also, if you know you will be missing a Tuesday round some week, you can turn in golf-out scores in advance to be put into the bank.  Be sure to ask at the desk to sign the league book for any golf-out rounds, because we get extra prize money at the end of the year from Tam O'Shanter for each league round played.

Ready for the Start of the 2013 Season....

The 2013 Not Just Bogeys Golf League season gets underway this Tuesday, April 30.  Check the "Hcps for Weeks 1 to 3" link in the right-hand column of this page to see what flight you are in and what your starting handicap will be.  Good luck to one and all, and let's get off to a great start this year!

Second Practice Round Scheduled for April 23

We had some people play in the first practice round of the spring last week, but hopefully more league members will tee it up this week at Tam O'Shanter.  If you don't turn in any practice round scores, then your handicap will start out at the same value it was at the end of last season.  Please remember to turn in your scorecard in the box that is part of the league's display board, so we can calculate handicaps for the start of the season.  If you know of anyone who's thinking of joining the league this year, please encourage them to play tonight so they will have a handicap for the first weeks of league play.

We've decided that instead of a Start-of-the-Year Party, we will try to have a mid-season 18-hole golf outing.  In order to determine the wishes of the majority of league members, please click on this link to cast your vote for when you would like the Mid-Year Outing to take place.

First Practice Round is Tomorrow

If they can play in the rain in Augusta, we can do the same in Hermitage!  It's time to hit the links and get ready for the 2013 season. We'll have our first practice round on Tuesday, April 16 at Tam O'Shanter with tee times starting from 4:30 until 6:00 pm.  Please remember to turn in your scorecard in the box that is part of the league's display board, so we can calculate handicaps for the start of the season.  If you know of anyone who's thinking of joining the league this year, please encourage them to play tonight and also next Tuesday to establish handicaps for the first weeks of league play.

Apr15

First Practice Round is coming up soon!

We always schedule two practice rounds for the golf league before actual competition starts. This gives everyone a chance to turn in some scores to establish a start-of-season handicap, and to get back into the swing of things.  If you play practice rounds, your handicap for the start of the season will be determined half from your handicap at the end of last year, and half from the practice rounds you play.  Our first practice round is scheduled for a week from tomorrow, Tuesday, April 16.  Plan to play that day, turn in your scorecard, and reconnect with your friends in the golf league after a LOOOONNNGGG and cold winter.

If you are new to the league this year, please plan to play and establish some scores for your handicap at the start of the year.  See you at the course!
