Second Half of Season Ends With Thrilling Finish

In the final round of league play for the year, the top three spots in all flights were finalized.  Congratulations to the second half champions of each flight:  Bob Walters in the A flight, Annette Manilla in the B flight and Janice Schwanbeck in the C flight.  Janice won the last special event of the year, by earning 53 points for the round; Rita Pacsi was runner-up with 41 points.

Our end-of-year outing is all set for Tam O'Shanter Golf Course on Sunday, September 11, with the first tee time scheduled for 11:56 am.  After golf, we'll go to Quaker Steak and Lube for food and two drinks on the league, along with prizes galore!

All Flight Races Still In Doubt; Garver Wins Special Event of the Week

With only one week left in the second half of 2011 league competition, the races for the flight championships are too close to call in all three flights.  It'll all come down to the last night of league action to determine not only the flight champions, but the top three finishers in each flight who will win a prize!  Dave Garver carded the best poker hand, with five net 5's for his round, to take top honors in the week's special event; Jim Stevenson won a tie-breaker for second place with five net 4's.  All of the results from league play on August 30 can be viewed by clicking the links at the right or top of this page.

We're planning to hold our end-of-season league outing at Tam O'Shanter on Sunday, September 11.  We have a block of five tee times between 11:56 and 12:28 pm, and after golf, we'll go to Quaker Steak and Lube in Sharon for the after-party, with free food and two drinks on the league.  The cost for 18 holes of golf will be $20, and you'll pay at the course.  Make plans to join your fellow league players for this day of golf, prizes and fun!

Szugye and Shoenfelt Card No Net Bogeys; Race for Flight B Championship in Turmoil

In the Drop-Out With a Bogey special event of the week, two players went the entire round without making a net bogey to take the top two spots.  Dolly Szugye wins the tie-breaker over Dave Shoenfelt, who takes second place.  In Flight B, there are five players separated by only 2½ points, so the last two weeks of the season promise to be filled with excitement.  Rick Manilla jumped from fourth place into the lead after a fine round this week.  The results from Week 16's league play may be found by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

Gardner Wins Special Event With Birdie on 18th Hole

Diane Gardner was the only league member to record a net birdie on the 18th hole during this week's league play, so she is the winner of the Save Your Best For Last fun event.  Janice Schwanbeck won a 9-way tiebreaker for the runner-up spot with her net par on 18.  Rita Pacsi and Jim Stevenson are tied atop Flight B, one point ahead of Annette Manilla, in the closest of the flight races, but with just three weeks to go in the season, all three flights are still up for grabs.  Use the links on this page to see all of the results from the August 16 round of league play.

The final handicap revision has been made for the remainder of the season.  To see the handicaps that will be used for weeks 16, 17 and 18, CLICK HERE.

Tie at Top of B Flight; Manilla Wins Stableford Tourney

The races for the flight championships are still up for grabs in all three flights, and there is a tie for the lead in the B Flight, with Rita Pacsi pulling even with Annette Manilla this week.  Bob Walters leads the A Flight, and Janice Schwanbeck holds the top spot in the C Flight.  Annette was the winner of the Stableford Tournament special event with a score of +2 points; Veronica Gardner took the runner-up spot with 0 points.  The results from league play in Week 14 may be viewed by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

Stevenson Takes Fun-Game Playoff on First Hole

The special event of the week was a Sudden-Death Playoff involving everyone in the league who played on Tuesday night, starting on # 10.  On the first hole, Jim Stevenson carded the only net birdie, so he took the first place prize for the playoff.  Three other players had net pars on # 10, so the playoff continued to see who would be runner-up for the week.  Veronica Gardner, Dave Shoenfelt and Bob Walters all had net bogeys on # 11, and then Dave dropped out of the playoff with a net bogey on # 12.  On the fourth hole of the playoff, Bob made a net par while Veronica made a net bogey, so Bob is the playoff runner-up in this special event.  View all results from the August 2nd round by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

Many Fairways Missed on a Hot Night

Congratulations to Dave Shoenfelt, who set a league record by missing 7 out of 7 fairways this week, thereby taking the top spot in this week's fun event – the only time that missing fairways helps you!  Jim Stevenson was runner up with 1 out of 7 fairways hit from the tee.  Use the links at the top and/or right of this page to check out all of the results from week 11 of NJB league play, and don't forget that you can submit a golf-out score any time before Sunday night this week if you weren't able to play this past Tuesday.

Second Half is Off to a Fast Start

July 12 was the first round of the second half of league play, and Bob Walters and Dolly Szugye jumped out to the lead in their flights, while Veronica Gardner and Janice Schwanbeck start out this half leading their flight.  Annette Manilla was the winner of the week's special event, teaming up with Old Man Par to win by three strokes; Veronica Gardner was runner-up. First Half of Season ends with exciting action in all Flights

The July 5 round of the Not Just Bogeys golf league marked the end of the first half of the 2011 season.  The top three places in each flight will win a prize to be distributed at the end-of-season outing in September.  Because Blase will be leaving for a 10-day trip on Friday, the final standings in each flight won't be determined until July 19, because several players have indicated they will turn in golf-out rounds for this week over this coming weekend.  In Week 9's special event, Lorinda Hess wins first place with two one-putt greens, and Jim Stevenson was runner-up.

Handicaps will be revised for the start of the second half of the season, and players will be re-seeded into flights based on the new handicaps.  At this time, we think that several people will be joining the league for the second half of the season, so we may have several people who will change flights this year at the half-way point.  Handicaps are scheduled to be revised after the July 26 and August 16 rounds, but the flights will stay the same for the rest of the season.

Hot Dog Night Produces Excitement and Fun

Once again, everyone from the league would like to thank Rosanne Jackal and the staff at Jess's for making our annual Hot Dog Night such a fun (and delicious) evening!  Stephanie Foltz and Rick Manilla were the winning team in the Blind Draw for Partners event, with a score of 28, with Annette Manilla and Trip McBride finishing in second place.  All of the results from Week 7 of league action are viewable on-line by using the links at the right side and the top of the page.

Next week (July 5) is the last round of the first half.  Remember that the top three finishers in each flight win a prize.  Most league members are still in contention to finish in one of the top three spots in their flights, so be sure to play this coming Tuesday or golf-out if you can't make it on the 5th.

Flight Races Still Up For Grabs; Many Balls Land in the Trees!

After league play on June 21st, the races in each of the flights are still anyone's to win, place or show with two weeks left in the first half of the season.  Pat Cindric was the golfer with the most tree ball points on the week, racking up 10; Dolly Szugye edged out Dave Garver for the runner-up spot in a handicap-playoff with 8 points.  And Bob Walters carded the first eagle by a member of the Eagles Club this season on # 13.  Check out all the results by clicking on the links located at the top and/or right of the page.

This coming Tuesday, June 28, will be our annual Hot Dog Fun Night.  We'll have special games on several holes (separate closest-to-the-pin, closest-to-the-pin-2nd-shot and long putt contests for men and women), and after the round, everyone will go to Jess's Restaurant on State Street in Hermitage for food, fun and prizes.  The special event will be a blind draw for partners, which will take place at Jess's after the round.  Plan to come to the get-together after your round, meet our new league members and take part in all the fun!

Hot Weather Finally Gets Here; Manilla Cards Most 5's

With temperatures in the 90's, it was like being in a different part of the country this past Tuesday night!  We had a better turnout for league play, and the races for the top spots in each flight are heating up.  Rick Manilla won the special event of the night, having the most gross and net 5's on his scorecard, with five of them.  Dolly Szugye was runner-up, also with five 5's. All of the results of the fourth week of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

Finally!  2011 Season Gets Started

The weather finally cooperated, and the Not Just Bogeys Golf League was able to get started for the new season.  The greens were surprisingly quick for this early in the year, and Dave Shoenfelt won the first special event of 2011, using the fewest putts of anyone who played on Tuesday.  Flights and match results won't be posted until after the second week of play, so that handicaps can be established for the new year.  Special Event, Skins and Eagles Club results are available by using the links at the top of the screen or in the sidebar menu on the right.

If you weren't able to play on Tuesday, please try to golf-out this week so that we have scores to use to establish your handicap.  Tell the front desk staff at Tam O'Shanter that you want to turn in your scorecard as a golf-out.

Rain Delays Start of Season by One Week

The rain struck again!  Because of the bad weather, we've decided to delay the start of the season by one week for the 2011 season.  The first official night of league play will be May 10, and the season will extend until September 6, the day after Labor Day.  Hopefully we'll have a dry day next Tuesday so we can actually get on the course!

Ready for the Start of the Season

Tuesday of this week, May 3, is the first night of league play for the 2011 season.  Because the weather has been so bad that both of our practice rounds were rained out, here's what we'll do:  the first two weeks of league play will be used to determine the starting handicaps for the first three weeks of league competition.  So we won't set up the flights until after the May 10 round of play.  Your score will count this week, it'll just be a few weeks until we post the results of league play.

This week's fun game will be Fewest Putts, and we'll also have the optional Skins Game for both men and women.  See you on Tuesday for the first round of action in the 2011 golf season!

First Practice Round is this Week

Can you believe it's time to hit the links for the season?!?  We'll have our first practice round this Tuesday night at Tam O'Shanter.  Please remember to turn in your scorecard in the box that is part of the league's display board, so we can calculate handicaps for the start of the season.  If you know of anyone who's thinking of joining the league this year, please encourage them to play this Tuesday and next to establish handicaps for the first weeks of league play.
