Second Half of Season Ends With Thrilling Finish

What an exciting final round of competion in the league this year!  The winners of two of the flights were determined in the last week of play.  Congratulations to the second half champions of each flight:  Bob Walters in the A flight, Rick Manilla in the B flight and Janice Schwanbeck in the C flight.  Janice won the last special event of the year, by carding a net birdie on the 18th hole, beating Denny Lieb in the handicap tiebreaker.

Our end-of-year outing is all set for Tam O'Shanter Golf Course on Sunday, September 19, with the first tee time scheduled for 11:00 am.  Send an e-mail message to cindricbb@mountunion.edu to let us know if you plan to play in the outing, and with whom you would like to play that day.  After golf, we'll go to Quaker Steak and Lube for food and a drink or two on the league, and prizes galore!

All Flight Races Still In Doubt; Manilla wins Stableford Tourney

With only one week left in the second half of 2010 league competition, the races for the flight championships are too close to call in all three flights.  After tying in their match this week, Annette Manilla and Janice Schwanbeck remained tied for the lead in the C flight, so it all comes down to the last night of league action in that race!  Annette was the winner of the Stableford Tournament special event with a score of +4 points; Blase Cindric took the runner-up spot with +3 points. All of the results from league play on August 24 can be viewed by clicking the links at the left or top of this page.

Watch your e-mail for announcements about the End-of-Season golf outing, and keep Sunday, September 19 open on your calendars for the outing.

Flights Going Down to the Wire With Only Two Weeks Remaining

The second-half competition for the top three spots in each flight are still anyone's for the taking.  Bob Walters extended his lead in the A flight by firing a blistering two-under gross score of 34.  Four other players are within 6 points of second place in the A flight.  Pat Cindric saw her lead shrink in the B flight standings, although it looks like the top three spots will probably go to Pat, Rick Manilla and Jim Stevenson, not necessarily in that order (but you never know!).  There is now a tie for the lead in the C flight, as Annette Manilla drew even with Janice Schwanbeck after play in the August 17 round.  Amy White is hanging close in Flight C.  View all results from Week 16 of league play by using the links at the top or left of this page.

We're still working out the details for the end-of-season league outing in September.  The date will be Sunday, September 19, but the location, cost, etc. have yet to be determined.  More news to be announced soon....

Gardners Go the Longest Without a Net Bogey; Flight Races Still Up For Grabs

With just three weeks left in the season, there are five or six players in each flight who still have a really good chance of finishing in the top three places.  In this week's special event, Diane Gardner and Veronica Gardner both made it to # 4 before making a net bogey, which was the best result of anyone who played on Tuesday; Diane was the event winner on the tie-breaker, with Veronica as the runner-up.  All results from the August 10 round of league play are viewable by clicking the links at the top and/or left.

Many Fairways Missed; Flight Races Stay Tight

Congratulations go out to Art Dye, who missed 6 of 7 fairways this week, thereby taking the top spot in this week's fun event – the only time that missing fairways helps you!  The leaders in each flight extended their slight leads this week (Bob Walters in the A flight, Pat Cindric in the B flight and Janice Schwanbeck in the C flight).  There's lots of change possible coming up this month — it's still anybody's league to win! Excellent Weather Helps League Members Score Low; Szugye Wins Special Event

On a beautiful evening at Tam O'Shanter, the thirteenth week of league play saw some excellent rounds of golf turned in by league members.  Bob Walters jumped into the top spot in the A flight; and the race for first place in the C flight tightened up.  Dolly Szugye and Dave Shoenfelt had exactly 27 net strokes after 7 holes, to take first and second place in the week's special event (closest to 27 after 7). Shoenfelt outlasts Walters in Sudden-Death Playoff event

The special event of the week was a Sudden-Death Playoff involving everyone in the league who played on Tuesday night, starting on # 10.  After the first hole, all but two players were eliminated from the playoff -- Dave Shoenfelt and Bob Walters both scored a net 3 on the hole; everyone else made net par or worse on # 10.  Then on # 11, Dave took the weekly fun prize with a net birdie, to beat Bob's net par.  View all results from the July 20 round by using the links at the top or left of this page.

Stellar play leads Week 11; Old Man Par helps players

The July 13 round of the Not Just Bogeys golf league saw some very low scores shot by several league members. Four players did not lose a match on the night:  Ken Johnston, Rick Manilla, Janice Schwanbeck and Amy White.  In the special fun event, KJ partered with Old Man Par for a seven-under-par net score of 29; Janice was this week's special event runner-up at five-under-par.  See all the results of the July 13 round by clicking on the links at the left or top of this page.

Second Half is Off to a Fast Start

First Half of Season ends with exciting action in all Flights

The June 29 round of the Not Just Bogeys golf league marked the end of the first half of the 2010 season. Congratulations go out to the winners of each flight: Blase Cindric won the A flight by 7 points, Rick Manilla topped the B flight by a margin of 2½ points, and Lorinda Hess was the winner of the C flight by 1½ points. The top three places in each flight will win a prize to be distributed at the end-of-season outing in September. In Week 9's special event, Pat Cindric earned the most points with a total of 59 to take the coveted first prize, edging Art Dye by seven points.

Handicaps have been revised for the start of the second half on July 6, and players have been re-seeded into flights based on the new handicaps.  At this time, we know that we have four people joining the league for the second half of the season, and one or two others may also do so.  Handicaps are scheduled to be revised after the July 20 and August 10 rounds, but the flights will stay the same for the rest of the season. Races for 1st-half Championships in Flights B, C come down to the wire

With only one week left in the first half of league competition, the races for the top spots in flights B and C are still up for grabs.  The top three finishers in each flight win prizes at our end-of-the-year outing!  The special event was for most balls in the trees; Art Dye was the "back-to-nature" winner, with a record 26 points in the event.  Bob Walters was the runner-up in the special event with 19 tree points.  All of the Week 8 league results are viewable on-line by using the links at the left and top of the page.

Hot Dog Night is a Big Hit with Players

Everyone from the league would like to thank Rosanne Jackal and the staff at Jess's for making our annual Hot Dog Night such a fun (and delicious) evening!  Jim Stevenson and Rick Manilla were the winning team in the Blind Draw for Partners event, with a score of 30, earning a two-stroke victory over the team of Amy White and Bob Walters.

Only two weeks are left in the first half of the season, so be sure to sharpen up your game for this coming week's round of play.  League handicaps have been revised again — to see the new handicaps that will be used for the rest of the first half, CLICK HERE.

Five of a Kind wins Best Poker Hand Event

Two players made five net 5's for their June 8th round, to take the top two spots in the special event of the week. Janice Schwanbeck bested Bob Walters by virtue of having a higher handicap to take the top spot; Bob was the runner-up. Three other players had 5-of-a-kind, but with 4's or 3's instead of 5's. To see the poker hands made from all players' net scores, and all other results of week 6 of league play, use the links at the top or left of this page.

This coming Tuesday, June 15, will be our annual Hot Dog Fun Night.  We'll have special games on several holes (separate long drive, closest-to-the-pin and long putt contests for men and women), and after the round, everyone will go to Jess's Restaurant on State Street in Hermitage for food, fun and prizes. The special event will be a blind draw for partners, which will take place at Jess's after the round. Be sure to come to Jess's for the get-together after your round, meet our new league members and take part in all the fun! A big THANK YOU to Rosanne Jackal and Jess's for sponsoring this league event!!

Manilla Shoots Blistering Round in Week 5, Takes Special Event

In the special event of the week, Annette Manilla had the lowest score after her worst two net holes were thrown out — a 21, which is the same score she had last year in this event, and ties the all-time record low score for this event in league history. Flight Standings Tighten Up

The races for first place in each flight are heating up — flight B has a three-way tie for first place, and flight C has gotten tighter.  The winner of the special event for the week was Veronica Gardner, who hit five of seven fairways and won the tie-breaker to take first place ... Round rained-out on May 11
