Anderson Tops the Field in Modified Stableford Tournament
In the special event of the week, Jim Anderson earned the most points in our Modified Stableford Tournament, scoring a total of +9 points with 2 net birdies and a net eagle. Runner-up honors went to Patti Noble with +7 points; Michelle Goodemote finished 3rd with +6 points, and Ken Fedders came in fourth with a score of +5 points for the round. Michelle's third place finish this week moves her to solo 2nd place for the season in Special Fun Event winnings. With one week left in the 2024 season, the second-half races for the top three spots in each flight are still up for grabs. Use the links on this page to check out where you stand in your flight, and to see the Skins game and Special Event results from Week 17 of league play.
Our end-of-year outing is set for Castle Hills Golf Course in New Castle, PA on Saturday, September 21. We were unable to get the course to give us a shotgun start, so we will have tee-times starting at 1:28 pm. After golf, we'll stay at Castle Hills for our meal and prizes galore! Should be a fun way to finish off the 2024 season.

Osborne Routs Captain Bogey to Take the Top Spot in the Special Event of the Week
In this week's fun event, each player took on Captain Bogey in match play, and Carol Osborne didn't give the Captain a chance in her match, beating him by a score of 8 up to take top honors for the week. Jordan Anderson also posted an 8 up victory over the Captain, but finished second due to the handicap tiebreaker. Dick Osborne finished in third place with a 7 up victory over Captain Bogey, and two players beat the Captain 6 up; by virtue of the handicap tie-breaker, Sam Podolan took fourth place in the event. To see all results from the week, use the links on this page.
Only two weeks are left in the 2024 season, and the flight races are up for grabs. Whoever finishes in the top three spots in each flight will be determined by who plays best down the stretch. Bring your best game to the course and finish strong the next two weeks!

Season Enters Home Stretch; Bahr wins 33–24–15 Special Event
The weather was unseasonably cool this week, but the long-range forecast is for more weeks of summer heat coming up. There are only three more weeks remaining in the 2024 Keg Golf League season, and many of the flight races are tight as we head toward the end of the second half. JoAnn Bahr was the winner of the 33-24-15 tournament special event, winning by one point over runner-up Jim Lowry. Blase Cindric finished 3rd, and Jim Anderson was 4th in the special event. You can see the points earned by each player in the special event, along with the flight and skins results by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.
Looking ahead, don't forget that our end-of-year outing is scheduled to be held at Castle Hills Golf Course in New Castle, PA on Saturday, September 21. After golf, we'll stay at the course for a catered meal, along with prizes from the day and from the season. Make plans to join us! More information about the outing will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.

Bair Wins The Elimination Challenge as Flight Races Tighten in the 2nd Half
The weather was really nice on both Monday and Tuesday for Week # 14 action in The Keg Golf League. The standings in several of the flights changed this week, as many good scores were turned in. In the Special Event of the week, The Elimination Challenge, there were 12 players who made it through all 9 holes without being eliminated, so they are ranked by their net totals for the round. RK Bair was the winner of the Elimination Challenge for 2024, firing a 2-under-par net score of 34. Jenn Abbott carded a net score of one-under 35 to finish in the second position. Heather Shuttleworth and Mike Bazoian turned in even-par net 36s; Heather took 3rd place by the handicap tie-breaker and Mike finished in fourth place. Use the links on this page to view all results of league matches, the Skins Games and the Special Event of the Week.

Rain Dampens Turnout on Tuesday the 6th; Many Fairways Missed Off the Tee as Kraynak Wins Special Event
Congratulations to Justin Kraynak, who missed 6 out of 7 fairways for the round and won the top prize in this week's special fun event – the only time that missing fairways helps you! Heather Shuttleworth finished in 2nd place by the tie-breaker, missing 5 of 7 fairways. Jim Lowry finished in third place and Dean Osborne finished fourth, both also missing 5 of 7 fairways for their round. Abbott Scores Closest to 29 on the 29th of July
The off-and-on showers kept some league members away early this week, but there still were some hot scores that were turned in by league members for Week 12 of the season. In the special event for Week 12, Jenn Abbott won the tie-breaker for the top prize after shooting a net score of 28 after the first 7 holes of the round. There were 3 other league members who also had a net score that was one stroke away from 29 after 7 holes in their Monday or Tuesday rounds, and the finishing positions were determined by the handicap tie-breaker rules. Michelle Goodemote took this week's runner-up spot; Jack Hurban and Dean Osborne tied for 3rd and will split the third and fourth place prize amounts. You can use the links at the top and/or right side of this page to see all the week's results and the current standings in all the flights.

Many Early Net Bogeys were made in League Play this Week; Cindric, Podolan, Anderson and Osborne Take Top Spots in Special Event
Only five players made it past hole number 12 without making a net bogey this week, as the course was challenging for league members. Blase Cindric had the longest stretch of holes without a net bogey, making it through 6 holes before ending the string on # 16, so he's the winner of the Fun Game of the Week. Sam Podolan and Jordan Anderson took the second and third spots by playing their first 5 holes without a net bogey, and Dean Osborne finished in fourth place. To see all results from Week # 11 of league action, use the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

Second Half of Season gets underway; Bazoian wins Fewest Putts Event
The first week of the 2nd half of the season featured some good scores that were turned in by league members. In the special event on July 15 & 16, Mike Bazoian was the Boss of the Moss, needing only 14 putts to complete his round and winning the event. Steve Higgins and Justin Kraynak each used only 15 putts in their rounds; Steve takes 2nd place via the handicap tiebreaker, and Justin finishes third. Mike George came in fourth with only 16 putts.
We start over with everyone having 0 points going into Week # 10 in their flight, and the leader in four of the five flights is a different player than the person who won that flight in the first half. You can view the gross scores, net skins, special event results, Hole-of-the-Week Club and Eagles Club information by using the links at the top and/or right-side of the league home page.

First Half of Season ends with exciting action in all Flights
The July 8 & 9 rounds of play in The Keg Golf League marked the end of the first half of the 2024 season. The top three finishers in each flight win a prize to be distributed at the end-of-season outing in September. The winners in each flight won't be officially determined until this Sunday night, because league members have until then to submit a golf-out score for the week if they didn't play on Monday or Tuesday. Click on the "Standings" link at the top of the page and then check out the link for July 8 to see the unofficial standings for the first half. In Week 9's special event, Brennan Lowry won the first place prize with a net eagle on hole # 18 to post 20 points. Marla Nardo and Janice Schwanbeck tied for 2nd place with net birdies on # 18, and Dean Osborne finished in fourth place via the handicap tiebreaker, also making a net birdie on # 18.
A second member of the Eagles Club posted a gross eagle this week — Jordan Anderson made an eagle 3 on hole # 13 on July 8. Congratulations, Jordan!
See you on Sunday for our Mid-Season Outing! It'll be a 2:00 pm shotgun start for our 18-hole scramble, with our picnic supper to follow the golf. Let's have a great day and get ready for the second half of league competition.

Lowry Partners With Old Man Par to Take Top Honors in the Special Event for Week 8
With only one week to go in the first half of the 2024 season, the races in most of the flights are still up for grabs, so next week promises to be exciting as the first half flight winners are determined. Be sure to play this coming Monday or Tuesday, or have a back-nine golf-out score turned in for the last week of the first half!
Janice Lowry teamed up with Old Man Par to shoot a better-ball net score of 31 to win this week's fun event; Jordan Anderson also had a net team score of 31, but finished in second place due to the handicap tie-breaker. Carol Osborne finished third with a team score of 32, and Ken Fedders' 32 put him in fourth place after the tie-breaker was applied. To see the latest results from the league, use the links at the top and/or right side of this page.
The Mid-Season Outing / Field Day for our league will be Sunday, July 14 at Tam O'Shanter. We will be playing an 18-hole Scramble with a 2:00 pm shotgun start, followed by a picnic dinner after the conclusion of the golf. A sign-up sheet will be at the front counter at Tam O'Shanter, and is available even if you golf-out — please sign the sheet and indicate whether you will be coming for both golf and dinner, for dinner only, or if you won't be able to attend the outing this year. Guests are welcome for $15, and you can indicate that you will be having a guest or guests on the sign-up sheet as well. Should be a lot of fun, so make plans to be there! PLEASE let us know soon if you will be attending — thank you.

Only Two More Weeks Left in First Half of Season; Cindric Has Most One-Putt Greens
Blase Cindric had 7 one-putt greens on June 24, more than anyone else who played on Monday or Tuesday of this week, so he takes the first place prize in this week's Fun Special Event. Michelle Piccirilli had four one-putt greens and finished in second place. There were 3 league members who had 3 one-putt greens, so the handicap tie-breaker was used to determine third and fourth places: RK Bair came in 3rd and Dean Osborne was 4th. The first gross eagle of the season by a member of the Eagles Club was made this week – congratulations to Brennan Lowry for his eagle 2 on hole # 16!
With just two weeks remaining in the first half of the season, it's time to start thinking about our Mid-Season Outing, scheduled for Sunday, July 14 at Tam O'Shanter. This event will be an 18-hole scramble with a 2:00 pm shotgun start, followed by a picnic supper at the course. Be sure to plan to play in this special league event! A signup sheet will be available at the course the next two weeks for you to let us know if you will be able to make it, or you can send e-mail to thekeg@blaseweb.com to let us know if you can participate.

Hinkson Cards Most Gross and Net 5's in Week 6
The first half of the season is now two-thirds complete, and the flight races are taking shape but are still up for grabs. Tom Hinkson won this week's special fun event, having the most gross and net 5's on his scorecard, with seven of them. Four players had six 5's for the round this week, so the handicap tie-breaker was used to determine 2nd through 4th places in the special event. Marla Nardo took 2nd place for the week, Jenn Abbott finished 3rd and RK Bair placed 4th. All of the results from Week 6 of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.
Mark your calendars — our Mid-Season Outing / Field Day will be held on Sunday, July 14 at Tam O'Shanter. We'll have an afternoon shotgun start for the golf, followed by food and fun. More details about the outing will be announced in the next several weeks, so stay tuned.

Bahr wins Sudden-Death Playoff on 3rd Hole
The special event this week was a Sudden-Death Playoff involving everyone in the league who played on Monday or Tuesday, starting on # 10. On the first hole of the round, three players carded net eagles, knocking everyone else out of contention for winning the playoff. On hole # 11, Mike George made a higher net score than JoAnn Bahr and Patti Noble, so he finished in third place. JoAnn and Patti both had net bogies on # 11, so they moved on to # 12, where JoAnn took the top spot with a net eagle to beat Patti's net birdie. In the quest for the fourth place prize, the 8 players who made net birdies on # 10 moved on to the next hole, where Mike Bazoian and Sam Podolan beat the other six players with a net birdie. Then on # 12, Mike beat Sam with a net bogey, topping Sam's net double-bogey to earn the fourth place prize for this event. You can view all results from the June 10th and 11th round by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.
The date and location of our Mid-Season Outing is Sunday, July 14 at Tam O'Shanter. More details will be shared in the next couple of weeks about this fun league event. Save the date!

Nardo Wins Best Poker Hand Event with Five of a Kind
We had unusually warm and dry conditions for early June this week, which led to a bunch of low scores shot by league members. In the Special Event this week, Marla Nardo, Michelle Goodemote and Justin Kraynak each carded five net 5's to post the best poker hands for anyone who played on Monday or Tuesday; Marla wins first prize by the handicap tie-breaker, Michelle finished second and Justin takes third place. Two players, Tom Hinkson and Dick Osborne, tied for fourth place with five net 4's on their scorecards, and tied with the same handicap for the week. The competition for the top spots in each the flights is really going strong as we move into the heart of the 2024 season.
After four weeks of league play, Jim Anderson has taken a 1-stroke lead in the Hole-of-the-Week Club standings, by virtue of his net birdie on the hole of the week this week, # 2. To see the Hole-of-the-Week Club standings, the poker hands made from the net scores of everyone who played their league round on Monday or Tuesday, and all other results of week # 4 of league play, use the links at the top or at the right side of this page.

We had nice weather on Memorial Day; Groscost wins Special Event of the Week
After three weeks of league play in 2024, we are well underway with the golf season. Each flight is competitive, and the lead changed hands in a couple of the flights this week. Be sure to turn in golf-outs for the weeks you can't play on Monday or Tuesday.
Chris Groscost won the special event for the week, with a score of 20 after throwing out his two worst net holes. Second and third places went to Heather Shuttleworth and Michelle Piccirilli, who both posted 22 strokes not counting their two worst scores. Heather won the tie-breaker for second place via her handicap, and Michelle finished third due to the tie-breaker. Jim Lowry placed fourth in the special event this week. All of the results from the third week of league play can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.
For our next league round, scheduled for Monday, June 3, we will have a special shot-gun start at 5:30 pm for our league play on the front nine, because Tam O'Shanter is closed until 5:15 pm for a large golf outing that day. The shotgun start should be fun – try to attend! But if you can't play at that time on 6/3, you can always play your league round on Tuesday, 6/4, or you can turn in a back-nine golf-out score for the week anytime before Sunday, June 9.

Most Flight Races Tight after Two Weeks; Cindric wins Fewest Putts Event
The standings in four of the five flights are close after the first two weeks of league play, with the flight leader ahead by 2 points or less. The exception is Flight D, where Janice Lowry has jumped out to a 2½ point lead, but it's still very early in the season. In our league, it really hurts you if you miss a week of league play without turning in a golf-out score, so be sure to golf out during those weeks that you can't make it on Monday or Tuesday for league play. You can also bank golf-out scores in advance if you know that you'll have to miss on a particular league day.
The special event for the week was fewest putts, and Blase Cindric and Jim Anderson outpaced the field on the greens in Week 2 action. Blase used only 11 putts for his 9 holes, edging out Jim by one putt for the top spot in the contest. Jim Lowry took 3rd place by carding only 15 putts for his round, and Mike George took 4th place via the handicap tiebreaker among the 5 players who used 16 putts to complete their league rounds. Use the links at the top or right-hand side of the page to see all the results from Week # 2 of league play.
This coming Monday is Memorial Day, and it will be a normal league play day for us. Tam O'Shanter has arranged for us to pay the regular weekday rate if we start our round after noon, so make your plans to celebrate the holiday on the links! If you can't make it that day to play, you can play on Tuesday, May 28, or use a golf-out score that you have in the bank or one that you turn in later in the week.

Season Opens with Nice Weather; Goodemote is the Most Accurate Driver in Week # 1
The weather was actually pretty nice on May 13 & 14 for the opening round of play in The Keg Golf League for 2024. In the special event of the week, Michelle Goodemote took the top spot by virtue of hitting 6 of 7 fairways with her tee shots for the round. Charlene Osborne, Janice Schwanbeck and Dick Osborne won the handicap tiebreaker for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place, respectively, by hitting 5 of 7 fairways for their rounds. You can view the gross and net scores and skins game results, along with the special event results, Eagle's Club and Hole-of-the-Week Club information, and the season-long statistical summary by using the links at the top and/or right-side of the league home page.
We will calculate new handicaps after each week of league play, so you can see what your handicap will be for next week by clicking on the "Handicaps for Week 2" link in the right-hand column of the league home page.
The Skins Game and Special Event results are final, because you must play on league days to be in those games. However, the flight standings aren't finalized until all league members have a chance to turn in a golf-out score for the week. If you play a round on the same nine as we played that week (week 1 was on the back nine) you can turn in a score for the week as long as you do it by Sunday night of the week you missed. You can also turn in scores in advance to be put in the golf-out bank if you know you'll be missing a week in the future. Just leave your scorecard with the staff at the front desk at Tam O'Shanter. If you don't turn in a golf-out score for a week you missed, we'll use the lowest score you have in the golf-out bank for that nine (if you have one).

Ready for the Start of the Season on May 13 and 14
The 2024 Keg Golf League season gets underway this Monday, May 13. Check the "Flights for First Half" and "Handicaps for Week 1" links in the right-hand column of this page to see what your starting handicap and flight will be. All players will be placed in a flight with players of comparable handicaps. We will adjust handicaps each week based on the previous week's score, but you will stay in the same flight for the entire first half of the season.
We will start the season on the Back Nine at Tam O'Shanter for the first week of league play. The weather forecast looks ok for Monday and Tuesday, so hopefully we'll have a good turnout of players for the first week of league play. Good luck to one and all, and let's get off to a great start this year!

Second Practice Round Scheduled for May 6/7
We're ready for our second practice round this week at Tam O'Shanter. Please turn in your scorecard so we can calculate handicaps for the start of the season. If you know of anyone who's thinking of joining the league this year, please encourage them to play practice rounds so they will have a handicap for the first weeks of league play.
We're continuing the season-long optional competition in the league this year called the Hole-of-the-Week Club. If you want to play, it's only $18 for the whole season (that's just $1 a week). Each week, one of the holes in your nine will be designated as the Hole of the Week, and we'll record your net score on that hole (after handicap strokes are deducted) in the book. At the end of the season, the players with the lowest total for the Holes of the Week will split the pot! How many places we pay out will be based on how many people participate. Here are the holes of the week for each week:
| May 13/14: Hole # 10 | June 24/25: Hole # 13 | Aug 5/6: Hole # 16 |
| May 20/21: Hole # 1 | July 1/2: Hole # 4 | Aug 12/13: Hole # 7 |
| May 27/28: Hole # 11 | July 8/9: Hole # 14 | Aug 19/20: Hole # 17 |
| June 3/4: Hole # 2 | July 15/16: Hole # 5 | Aug 26/27: Hole # 8 |
| June 10/11: Hole # 12 | July 22/23: Hole # 15 | Sept 2/3: Hole # 18 |
| June 17/18: Hole # 3 | Jul 29/30: Hole # 6 | Sept 9/10: Hole # 9 |
Since we're using net scores, everyone has a good chance to win this, especially higher handicap players. Why not give it a shot this year and join the fun?!?
If you've paid your league dues already, thank you! Don't forget that league dues must be paid by May 27.

First Practice Round is this coming week (April 29 & 30)
We will have two practice rounds for the golf league before actual competition starts this year. This gives everyone a chance to turn in some scores to establish a start-of-season handicap, and to get back into the swing of things. If you play practice rounds, your handicap for the start of the season will be determined half from your handicap at the end of last year + 2, and half from the practice rounds you play. Our first practice round is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of this coming week, April 29 and 30. We will be on the Back Nine for the first practice round. Make plans to play, turn in your scorecard, and reconnect with your friends in the golf league (or if you can't play on Monday or Tuesday, turn in a golf-out score if you play later in the week).
If you are new to the league this year, please plan to play and establish some scores for your handicap at the start of the year. If you can't play on Mondays or Tuesdays the next two weeks, be sure to golf out. See you at the course!

We are getting ready for the 2024 Golf League Season
Now that the calendar has turned to April and the weather (hopefully) will start to get better, we can think about our golf league for the year. The league is being sponsored again this year by The Keg Bar & Grille on East State Street in Sharon, PA. Click here to visit The Keg's Facebook page to check out their upcoming events, menu and specials. Remember, "THE KEG" stands for The Happy Excuse to Keep Enjoying Golf! Thanks to our sponsor, we'll have plenty of great prizes for our weekly fun games this year, and The Keg will be our official league go-to location for after-golf food, drinks and fun!
Here's some information about the start of the 2024 season: we'll have two practice round weeks starting with the April 29/30 first practice round, with the second practice round being May 6/7. New members must play two 9-hole practice rounds before May 12 to establish a handicap for use in Week 1 of league play. The first week of league play for the season will take place on May 13 and 14. Remember that you can play your league round and participate in all games including the Skins Games and the Special Event of the Week if you play on either Monday or Tuesday each week.
To thank The Keg for sponsoring our league, we're encouraging all league members to stop in at The Keg after your round of golf each week for drinks and good food, and to brag about your round or get some consolation/teasing from your fellow league members if things didn't go so well that day! Make it a regular habit to drop in at The Keg — your official after-golf spot!
