Second Half of Season gets underway; Anderson wins Fewest Putts Event

The first week of the 2nd half of the season featured hot weather and some hot scores that were turned in by league members.  In the special event on July 13 & 14, Jim Anderson left the rest of the field in the dust by using only 10 putts for his round, winning first place in our Fewest Putts event going away.  Blase Cindric used 15 putts for his round to finish in second place, and five players recorded 16 putts for their round, so the handicap tie-breaker was used to determine the third and fourth place finishers.  Shannon Goodemote finished third and Nick Marriotti took fourth place.

The first gross eagle of the season by a member of the Eagles Club was made this week — congratulations to Jim Anderson for his eagle 2 on hole # 1.

We start over with everyone having 0 points going into Week # 10 in their flight, and so we have some new flight leaders as the second half of the season begins.  You can view the gross scores, net skins, special event results, Hole-of-the-Week Club and Eagles Club information by using the links at the top and/or right-side of the league home page.

First Half of Season ends with exciting action in all Flights

The July 6 & 7 rounds of play in the High Street Golf League marked the end of the first half of the 2026 season.  The top four finishers in each flight will win a prize to be distributed at the end-of-season outing in September.  The winners in each flight won't be officially determined until this Sunday night, because league members have until then to submit a golf-out score for the week if they didn't play on Monday or Tuesday.  Click on the "Standings" link at the top of the page and then check out the link for July 6 to see the not-yet-final standings for the first half.  In Week 9's special event, Deb Hopkins won her third first place prize in a Fun Game contest with a net eagle on hole # 17 to post 19 points, taking the top spot by virtue of the handicap tie-breaker.  Janice Schwanbeck, Veronica Gardner and Scott Goodrick finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively, based on the tie-breaker; each of them scored 19 points in the event by making a net birdie on # 18.

See you on Sunday for our Mid-Season Outing!  It'll be a 2:00 pm shotgun start for our 18-hole scramble, with our picnic supper to follow the golf.  Let's have a great day and get ready for the second half of league competition.

Temperatures Soar as June Comes to an End; Hopkins Partners With Old Man Par to Take Top Honors in the Special Event for Week 8

With only one week to go in the first half of the 2026 season, the races in most of the flights are still up for grabs, so next week promises to be exciting as the first half flight winners are determined.  Be sure to play this coming Monday or Tuesday, or have a back-nine golf-out score turned in for the last week of the first half!

Two players teamed up with Old Man Par to shoot a better-ball net score of 28 in this week's fun event:  Deb Hopkins finished in first place via the handicap tiebreaker, and Heather Shuttleworth took second place.  Linda Mercadante was third by partnering with Old Man Par for a better-ball score of 31 strokes, and Bob Walters finished fourth with his score in the event of 32 strokes.  To see the latest results from the league, use the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

The Mid-Season Outing / Field Day for our league will be Sunday, July 12 at Tam O'Shanter.  We will be playing an 18-hole Scramble with a 2:00 pm shotgun start, followed by a picnic dinner after the conclusion of the golf.  A sign-up booklet will be at the front counter at Tam O'Shanter, and is available even if you golf-out — please sign the booklet and indicate whether you will be coming for both golf and dinner, for dinner only, or if you won't be able to attend the outing this year.  Guests are welcome for $15, and you can indicate that you will be having a guest or guests on the sign-up sheet as well.  Should be a lot of fun, so make plans to be there!  PLEASE let us know soon if you will be able to attend — thank you.

Only Two More Weeks Left in First Half of Season; Lawrence wins Sudden-Death Playoff on 1st Hole

The special event this week was a Sudden-Death Playoff involving everyone in the league who played on Monday or Tuesday, starting on # 10.  On the first hole of the round, Paula Lawrence beat the entire field with a net eagle 2 to win the simulated sudden-death playoff event.  Eleven players carded net birdies on # 10, knocking everyone else out of contention for winning a prize in the playoff.  On hole # 11, four of those eleven players made a net par 4 to continue on in the playoff; then on # 12, three of those players made a net par to lock up the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots, but the playoff had to continue to see who would finish in each position.  On hole # 13, Jack Hurban scored a net par to take 2nd place, Dean Osborne took 3rd with a net bogey, and Carol Osborne won the 4th place prize with a net doube-bogey.  You can view all results from the June 22nd and 23rd round by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

With just two weeks remaining in the first half of the season, it's time to start thinking about our Mid-Season Outing, scheduled for Sunday, July 12 at Tam O'Shanter.  This event will be an 18-hole scramble with a 2:00 pm shotgun start, followed by a picnic supper at the course.  Be sure to plan to play in this special league event if you are able!  A signup sheet will be available at the course the next two weeks for you to let us know if you will be able to make it, or you can send e-mail to highstgolfleague@blaseweb.com to let us know if you can participate.

Bair's Hot Putter Results in the Most One-Putt Greens This Week

Zach Bair took the first place prize in this week's Fun Special Event with 4 one-putt greens in his round.  There were 4 league members who had 3 one-putt greens, so the handicap tie-breaker was used to determine second, third and fourth places:  Mike George finished in 2nd place, JoAnn Bahr came in 3rd and Erin Stanek took 4th.  All of the results from Week 6 of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

Mark your calendars — our Mid-Season Outing / Field Day will be held on Sunday, July 12 at Tam O'Shanter.  We'll have an afternoon shotgun start for the golf, followed by food and fun.  More details about the outing will be announced in the next several weeks, so stay tuned.

Goodemote Has Most Gross and Net 5's in Week 5

The first half of the season is now more than half complete, and the flight races are taking shape but are still up for grabs.  Michelle Goodemote was the winner of this week's special fun event, having the most gross and net 5's on her scorecard, with nine of them.  Three players had seven 5's for the round this week, so the handicap tie-breaker was used to determine 2nd, 3rd and 4th places in the special event.  Scot Hopkins took 2nd place for the week, Jim Lowry was 3rd, and Jake Weber finished 4th.  All of the results from Week 5 of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

The date and location of our Mid-Season Outing is Sunday, July 12 at Tam O'Shanter.  More details will be shared in the next couple of weeks about this fun league event.  Save the date and plan to join the fun!

Gardner Wins Best Poker Hand Event with Five of a Kind

The excellent recent weather for the first two days of June led to a host of low scores shot by league members.  In the Special Event this week, Diane Gardner carded five net 6's to post the best poker hand of anyone who played on Monday or Tuesday.  Linda Mercadante, Chris Groscost and Jim Lowry each had five net 5's for their poker hands, so the handicap tiebreaker placed Linda second, Chris third and Jim fourth for the event.  The competition for the top spots in each the flights is really going strong as we are well into the 2026 season.

After four weeks of league play, Janice Schwanbeck has taken a 1-stroke lead in the Hole-of-the-Week Club standings, by virtue of her net eagle on the hole of the week this week, # 2.  Jim Anderson at -2 and Jim Lowry at -1 are the other members of the HOTW Club that are under par so far.  To see the Hole-of-the-Week Club standings, the poker hands made from the net scores of everyone who played their league round on Monday or Tuesday, and all other results of week # 4 of league play, use the links at the top or at the right side of this page.

We had a nice warmup for Memorial Day; Hopkins wins Special Event of the Week

After three weeks of league play in 2026, the season is well underway with lots of good scores being turned in.  Each flight is competitive, and the lead changed hands in a couple of the flights this week.  Be sure to turn in golf-outs for the weeks you can't play on Monday or Tuesday.

Deb Hopkins won the special event for the week, with a score of 21 after throwing out her two worst net holes.  Second place went to Ken Johnston, who posted 22 strokes not counting his two worst holes.  Julie Dugan and Scott Goodrick both had scores of 23 for the special event, with Julie taking third place and Scott finishing in fourth.  All of the results from the third week of league play can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

For our next league round, scheduled for Monday, June 1, we will have a special shot-gun start at 5:15 pm for our league play on the front nine, because Tam O'Shanter is closed until 5:00 pm for a large golf outing that day.  The shotgun start should be fun – try to attend!  But if you can't play at that time on 6/1, you can always play your league round on Tuesday, 6/2, or you can turn in a back-nine golf-out score for the week anytime before Sunday, June 7.

All Flight Races are Tight after Two Weeks; Cindric wins Fewest Putts Event

The standings in all six flights are close after the first two weeks of league play, with the flight leader ahead by 2 points or less.  The biggest lead is held by TJ Jablonski in Flight E, with a 2 point lead over Mark Cirillo.  But it's still very early in the season, and everyone is still in the running for one of the top spots in each flight.  In our league, it really hurts you if you miss a week of league play without turning in a golf-out score, so be sure to golf out during those weeks that you can't make it on Monday or Tuesday for league play.  You can also bank golf-out scores in advance if you know that you'll have to miss on a particular league day.

The special event for the week was fewest putts, and Blase Cindric and Scott Goodrick outpaced the field on the greens in Week 2 action.  Blase used only 12 putts for his 9 holes, and Scott used only 15 putts for his round, so they finished 1-2 in the event.  There were five players who had 17 putts for their round, and the handicap tiebreaker was used to determine the third and fourth place finishers this week.  Paula Lawrence took third place and Mark Cirillo finished in fourth.  Use the links at the top or right-hand side of the page to see all the results from Week # 2 of league play.

This coming Monday is Memorial Day, and it will be a normal league play day for us.  Tam O'Shanter has arranged for us to pay the regular weekday rate if we start our round after noon, so make your plans to celebrate the holiday on the links!  If you can't make it that day to play, you can play on Tuesday, May 26, or use a golf-out score that you have in the bank or one that you turn in later in the week.

Season Opens with Nice Weather; Marks is the Most Accurate Driver in Week # 1

The weather was actually pretty nice on May 11 & 12 for the opening round of play in the High Street Golf League for 2026.  In the special event of the week, Mary Rose Marks took the top spot by virtue of hitting 7 of 7 fairways with her tee shots for the round — you just can't do any better!  RK Bair also hit all 7 fairways during his round, but finishes in second place due to the handicap tiebreaker.  Paula Lawrence and Linda Moreland won the handicap tiebreaker for 3rd and 4th place, respectively, by hitting 6 of 7 fairways for their rounds.  You can view the gross and net scores and skins game results, along with the special event results, Eagle's Club and Hole-of-the-Week Club information, and the season-long statistical summary by using the links at the top and/or right-side of the league home page.

We will calculate new handicaps after each week of league play, so you can see what your handicap will be for next week by clicking on the "Handicaps for Week 2" link in the right-hand column of the league home page.

The Skins Game and Special Event results are final, because you must play on league days to be in those games.  However, the flight standings aren't finalized until all league members have a chance to turn in a golf-out score for the week.  If you play a round on the same nine as we played that week (week 1 was on the back nine) you can turn in a score for the week as long as you do it by Sunday night of the week you missed.  You can also turn in scores in advance to be put in the golf-out bank if you know you'll be missing a week in the future.  Just leave your scorecard with the staff at the front desk at Tam O'Shanter.  If you don't turn in a golf-out score for a week you missed, we'll use the lowest score you have in the golf-out bank for that nine (if you have one).

Ready for the Start of the Season on May 11 and 12

The 2026 High Street Golf League season gets underway this Monday, May 11.  Check the "Flights for First Half" and "Handicaps for Week 1" links in the right-hand column of this page to see what your starting handicap and flight will be.  All players will be placed in a flight for the first half of the season with players of comparable handicaps.  We will adjust handicaps each week based on the previous week's score, but you will stay in the same flight for the entire first half of the season.

We will start the season on the Back Nine at Tam O'Shanter for the first week of league play.  The weather forecast looks at least decent for Monday and Tuesday, so hopefully we'll have a good turnout of players for the season's first week.  Good luck to one and all, and let's get off to a great start this year!

Second Practice Round Scheduled for May 4/5

We're ready for our second practice round this week at Tam O'Shanter.  We will play the Front nine for this week's practice round.  Please turn in your scorecard so we can calculate handicaps for the start of the season.  If you know of anyone who's thinking of joining the league this year, please encourage them to play practice rounds so they will have a handicap for the first weeks of league play.

We're continuing the season-long optional competition in the league this year called the Hole-of-the-Week Club.  If you want to play, it's only $18 for the whole season (that's just $1 a week).  Each week, one of the holes in your nine will be designated as the Hole of the Week, and we'll record your net score on that hole (after handicap strokes are deducted) in the book.  At the end of the season, the players with the lowest total for the Holes of the Week will split the pot!  How many places we pay out will be based on how many people participate.  Here are the holes of the week for each week:

May 11/12:   Hole # 10 June 22/23:   Hole # 13 Aug 3/4:   Hole # 16
May 18/19:   Hole # 1 June 29/30:   Hole # 4 Aug 10/11:   Hole # 7
May 25/26:   Hole # 11 July 6/7:   Hole # 14 Aug 17/18:   Hole # 17
June 1/2:   Hole # 2 July 13/14:   Hole # 5 Aug 24/25:   Hole # 8
June 8/9:   Hole # 12 July 20/21:   Hole # 15 Aug 31/Sept 1:   Hole # 18
June 15/16:   Hole # 3 Jul 27/28:   Hole # 6 Sept 7/8:   Hole # 9

Since we're using net scores, everyone has a good chance to win this, especially higher handicap players.  Why not give it a shot this year and join the fun?!?

If you've paid your league dues already, thank you! Don't forget that league dues must be paid by May 25.

First Practice Round is this coming week (April 27 & 28)

We will have two practice rounds for the golf league before actual competition starts this year.  This gives everyone a chance to turn in some scores to establish a start-of-season handicap, and to get back into the swing of things.  If you play practice rounds, your handicap for the start of the season will be determined half from your handicap at the end of last year + 2, and half from the practice rounds you play.  Our first practice round is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of this coming week, April 27 and 28.  We will be on the Back Nine for the first practice round.  Make plans to play, turn in your scorecard, and reconnect with your friends in the golf league (or if you can't play on Monday or Tuesday, turn in a golf-out score if you play later in the week).

If you are new to the league this year, please plan to play and establish some scores for your handicap at the start of the year.  If you can't play on Mondays or Tuesdays the next two weeks, you can turn in scores as golf-outs.  See you at the course!

Time to start thinking about the 2026 Golf League Season!

Now that we are halfway through the month of April and the weather will (hopefully) start to get better, we can prepare for playing in our golf league for the year.  We're planning lots of fun in the league this season.

Here's some information about the start of the 2026 season:  we'll have two practice round weeks starting with the first practice round on April 27 & 28; the second practice round will be on May 4 & 5.  New members must play two 9-hole practice rounds before Friday May 8 to establish a handicap for use in Week 1 of league play.  The first week of league play for the season will take place on May 11 and 12.  Remember that you can play your league round and participate in all games including the Skins Games and the Special Event of the Week if you play on either Monday or Tuesday each week.

If you know of anyone who would would have fun by playing in our league, please share our e-mail address and web site with them.  We're looking for new members, so your help is appreciated. See you soon at the course!
