Stevenson Wins Sudden-Death Playoff on 2nd Hole

The special event this week was a Sudden-Death Playoff involving everyone in the league who played on Tuesday night, starting on # 1. On the first hole, there were three players who carded net birdies, so everyone else was out of the playoff.  On hole # 2, Jim Stevenson made a net 4, but Trip McBride and Marla Nardo both made net 5's, so Jim won the event with that score.  The playoff continued to see who would be the runner-up, and Trip defeated Marla on hole # 3 to take second place for the week.  You can view all results from the August 4th round by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

Make plans now to play on Sunday, September 11 in our End-Of-Season outing at Knoll Run Golf Course in Struthers, OH.  Watch your e-mail for details.

Congratulations go out to Rick Manilla, who missed all 7 fairways on par-4's and par-5's for the round and won the first-place prize in this week's special fun event – the only time that missing fairways helps you!  Janice Schwanbeck took 2nd prize by hitting only 2 fairways during her round and winning the tie-breaker.  Only eight players played on league night, so be sure to turn in a golf out before Sunday evening to compete in your flight this week.  Check out all the results of this week's play on this web site.

Our end-of-season outing will be held on Sunday, September 11 at Knoll Run Golf Course in Struthers, OH.  We have tee times starting at 12:08 pm and running until 12:40 pm.  After the 18 holes, we'll stay at Knoll Run for our party and prizes.  More details will be shared by e-mail in the next couple of weeks.

Many Early Net Bogeys in League Play this Week; Manilla takes Special Event

Two players who played on Tuesday night had long stretches of holes without making a net bogey from the start of their rounds, and both of them almost made it through the whole round before carding net bogeys on # 9.  It came down to a tie-breaker to determine the winner and the runner-up, and Rick Manilla finished in first place while Art Dye took the runner-up spot.  Believe it or not, this week marks the mid-point of the first half of the season, and the flight races are still all up for grabs.  Check out all the results on this web site.

Manilla is Most Accurate Driver on May 17; Flight Races Tight after Four Weeks

The standings in all three flights are close after the first four weeks of league play.  In this league, it really hurts you if you miss a week of league play without turning in a golf-out score, so be sure to golf out during those weeks that you can't make it on Tuesday night.  You can also bank golf-out scores in advance if you know that you'll have to miss on a particular league night.

The special event for the week was most tee shots in the fairway, and Annette Manilla took first place honors by hitting 6 of 7 fairways in her round.  Runner-up was Virginia Peterson with 4 drives in the fairway.  Use the links at the top or right-hand side of the page to see all the results from Week # 4 of league play.

Rain holds off to provide a nice evening for golf; Dye wins Special Event

The threat of rain led to a light turnout on league night, with only 9 players playing.  Be sure to turn in a golf-out score if you can't make it on a Tuesday, to avoid falling too far behind in your flight race.

Art Dye won the special event of the week, with a score of 25 after throwing out his two worst net holes; Blase Cindric was runner-up.  All of the results from the third week of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

Mistretta Cards Most 5's and 3's on 5/3

The races for the top three spots in each flight are off to a big start this year.  Bill Mistretta won the special event of the night, having the most gross and net 5's and 3's on his scorecard, with eight of them.  Blase Cindric was runner-up, also with eight 5's and 3's.  All of the results of Week 2 of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

Don't forget, if you were unable to play on league night, you can turn in a golf-out score any time before Sunday night of the week that you missed.  You can also bank golf-out scores in advance; scores in the bank may be viewed using the link on the league home page.

Opening Day Played in Not-Bad Conditions; Dye wins Fewest Putts Event

It was kind of cold but otherwise was a fairly decent weather day for the opening round of play in the Not Just Bogeys league for 2016.  About 3/5 of the players played on league night, and several players shot under par after their handicaps were subtracted, getting them off to a good start in their flights.  In the special event of the week, Art Dye was the boss of the moss, needing only 16 putts to complete his round.  New league member Dustin Henegan was runner-up, tying Art with 16 putts but losing the handicap tie-breaker.  You can view the gross scores, net skins, special event results and Eagle's Club information by using the links at the top and/or right-side of the league home page.

We will calculate new handicaps after each week of league play, so you can see what your handicap will be for next week by clicking on the "Handicaps for Week 2" link in the right-hand column of the league home page.

The flight standings aren't finalized until all league members have a chance to turn in a golf-out score for the week.  If you play a round on the same nine as we played that week (week 1 was on the front nine) you can turn in a score for the week as long as you do it by Sunday night of the week you missed.  You can also turn in scores in advance to be put in the golf-out bank if you know you'll be missing a week in the future.  Just leave your scorecard with the staff at the front desk at Tam O'Shanter.

Second Practice Round Scheduled for April 19

Hopefully the nice weather will allow league members will tee it up this week at Tam O'Shanter.  Please turn in your scorecard so we can calculate handicaps for the start of the season.  If you know of anyone who's thinking of joining the league this year, please encourage them to play tonight so they will have a handicap for the first weeks of league play.

First Practice Round is Today!

We always schedule two practice rounds for the golf league before actual competition starts. This gives everyone a chance to turn in some scores to establish a start-of-season handicap, and to get back into the swing of things.  If you play practice rounds, your handicap for the start of the season will be determined half from your handicap at the end of last year, and half from the practice rounds you play.  Our first practice round is coming up today — Tuesday, April 12.  Plan to play today, turn in your scorecard, and reconnect with your friends in the golf league.

If you are new to the league this year, please plan to play and establish some scores for your handicap at the start of the year.  See you at the course!
