Reed Wins Final Special Event of the Season With Eagle on 8th Hole

Karen Reed scored a net eagle on the 8th hole, which counts for 10 points, and that means that she is the winner of the Save Your Best For Last fun event.  Stephanie Foltz won a 10-way tiebreaker for the runner-up spot with her net birdie on # 8 for 9 points.  Congratulations are in order for the second half champions of each flight:  Don Reed in the A flight, Pat Cindric in the B flight, Annette Manilla in Flight C, and Veronica Gardner in the D flight.

Our end-of-year outing is all set for Deer Creek Golf Course on Sunday, September 9, with the first tee time scheduled for 11:52 am.  After golf, we'll go to Quaker Steak and Lube for food and two drinks on the league, along with prizes galore!  Watch your e-mail on Thursday or Friday of this week for the tee time assignments and more information.

Hull Takes Fun-Game Playoff on Third Hole

The special event of the week was a Sudden-Death Playoff involving everyone in the league who played on Tuesday night, starting on # 10.  On the first hole, there were only two players who carded net 3's:  Lorinda Hess and Jeff Hull.  So those two players were guaranteed to finish in the top two spots in the playoff, which continued on to # 11.  Both players made net bogeys on # 11, and the playoff moved on to # 12.  On the third hole of the playoff, Jeff made a net birdie while Lorinda made a net par, so Jeff takes first place and Lorinda is the runner-up.  View all results from the August 28th round by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

Our end-of-season outing will be held at Deer Creek Golf Course (west of Hubbard on Ohio Route 304) on Sunday, Sept. 9.  We have tee times starting at 11:52 am going to 12:48 pm.  Send an e-mail message to cindricbb@mountunion.edu to let us know if you plan to play in the outing, if you have a preferred tee time, and with whom you would like to play that day.  After golf, everyone is invited to Quaker Steak and Lube in Downtown Sharon for food, drinks, prizes and fun!  Watch your e-mail for more details as we get closer to the big event.

Rain Postpones League Season by One Week

The skies let loose with a big storm right about league start time on Tuesday, August 14, and so the day's play was declared a rain-out.  We've decided to extend the season one week later than originally planned, so we won't miss a week due to the cancellation. Let's hope for better weather over the next three Tuesdays!

Flight Races Tighten as League Hits the Home Stretch; Reed Beats Captain Bogey Like a Drum

If you played this past Tuesday night, you know it was just about the best day of the summer, weather-wise.  What a great day!  There were lots of shake-ups in the flight standings, where the top spots in each flight are really up for grabs with only three weeks left in the season.  In the special event of the week, Captain Bogey played a match against each player, and Don Reed beat the Captain in his match by a score of 8 up to win the coveted $12 gift certificate.  Pat Cindric won the tiebreaker to take the runner-up spot when she won her match against Captain Bogey by a score of 7 up.  To see all the week's results, use the links on this page.

Heading into the last third of the second half of the season, the player handicaps have been revised for use in weeks 16, 17 and 18.  To see the new handicaps that will be used for the rest of the 2012 season, CLICK HERE.

Walters Closest to 31 on the 31st

Each of the flights has an interesting race after week 14 of league play.  Plenty of change in the standings is possible in the remaining four weeks of league action.

Bob Walters and Jessie Hull took first and second place in the week's special event (closest to 31 strokes after 7 holes on 7/31).  Bob hit the number 31 exactly, and Jessie was just one stroke off the number.  Use the links at the top and/or right side of this page to see all the week's results.

A new link has been added to the "Fun Games" page of the web site that shows the Special Event prize winner leaderboard for the season so far.  You can see who has racked up the most gift certificates for the entire year, and when you win a special event certificate, watch yourself move up the board!  Click on the "Fun Games" link at the top of the page to check it out.

Cantalupe Leads Field as Many Long Putts Are Made

On a beautiful evening, we had a good turn-out for the July 24 round of league play.  Paula Cantalupe had 3 different three-point holes (either putts made longer than the flagstick or chip-ins from off the green) on her way to winning the Points for Long Putts special event; Dave U'Halie finished in second place.  The standings in each flight are still tight; this early in the second half, it's still anybody's league to win.  You can see all of the results from week 13 of the NJB league by using the links at the top or right side of this page.

Temperatures Soar as Gardner Avoids Elimination to Win Special Event

Boy it sure was hot on July 17 for the latest round of play in the Not Just Bogeys Golf League.  The week's special event was The Elimination Challenge, where the player or players who made the highest net score on each hole were eliminated until only one player was left.  After hole number 16, only 4 players were left, and then on #17, Veronica Gardner won the event with a net 2 as the other three players each made a net score of 5 to be eliminated.  Jim Stevenson wins the tie-breaker to take second place in the special event.

Handicaps have been revised after the first three weeks of the second half of the season.  You will stay in the same flight for the entire second half, but your handicap may have changed.  To see the new handicaps that will be used for weeks 13, 14 and 15, CLICK HERE.

First Half of Season ends with exciting action in all Flights

The June 26 round of play in the Not Just Bogeys golf league marked the end of the first half of the 2012 season.  The top three places in each flight will win a prize to be distributed at the end-of-season outing in September.  Congratulations are in order for the winners of each flight:  Blase Cindric in the A Flight, Don Reed for the B Flight, Annette Manilla for Flight C, and Janice Schwanbeck in Flight D.  Click on the "Standings" link at the top of the page and then check out the link for June 26 to see all of the final standings for the first half.  In Week 9's special event, Dave U'Halie won the first place prize with 59 points, and Art Dye was runner-up with 56 points.

Handicaps have been revised for the start of the second half of the season, and several players have moved into different flights based on the new handicaps.  Due to the number of players we have in the league, we will have only three flights for the second half of the season.  Check out your new handicap and what flight you'll be in by clicking THIS LINK.  Handicaps are scheduled to be revised after the July 17 and August 7 rounds, but the flights will stay the same for the entire second half of the season.

Snyder Cards Most One-Putts; First Half of Season Almost Finished

The next-to-last week of the first half provided some changes in the flight standings.  There are still 17 league members with a chance to win a prize by finishing in one of the top three spots in their flight.  Next week's action will determine it all.

Ryan Snyder won this week's special event, by recording 4 one-putt greens during his round, which ties the all-time record for this event in league history.  Bob Walters was runner-up, also with 4 one-putts in his nine holes.  Use the links on this page to see all results from Week 8 Not Just Bogeys action.

Annual Hot Dog Night is a Success

Once again, everyone from the league would like to thank Rosanne Jackal and the staff at Jess's for making our yearly Hot Dog Night a fun and delicious evening!  Jeff Hull won the night's special event, lowest net total after three random holes were thrown out.  Stephanie Foltz was runner up in the special event.  All of the results from Week 7 of league action are viewable on-line by using the links at the right side and the top of the page.

Only two weeks remain in the first half of the season.  Remember that the top three finishers in each flight win a prize.  Most league members are still in contention to finish in one of the top three spots in their flights, so be sure to play on the remaining Tuesdays in June or golf-out if you can't make it on league night.

Weather is Beautiful, and New League Members Have Best Poker Hands

Our two newest league members must be card sharks, because they had the two best 5-card poker hands in the week's special event!  Both Dave U'Halie and Paula Cantalupe had Five net 4's on their scorecard; Dave took top honors by virtue of the tiebreaker, and Paula was runner-up.  Just as a reminder, if you win a special event certificate, it will be in an envelope with your name on it in the Skins Box in the league display case the following week.  Use the links at the top and/or right side of this page to see all the results from the May 15 round of league play.

League Begins for the Season with Great Weather; Reed uses Fewest Putts

What a super night for golf we had for the opening round of play in the Not Just Bogeys league for 2012!  Because some new players don't yet have a handicap, we'll hold off posting match results until the Week 2 scores are in.  In the special event of the week, Don Reed was the boss of the moss, needing only 15 putts to complete his round.  Annette Manilla won the tie-breaker for runner-up with 16 putts.  You can view the gross scores, skins results, special event results and Eagle's Club information by using the links at the top and/or right-side of the browser window.

We've had a couple of people pull out of the league at the last minute, so the flights and handicap information that is shown on the site is not finalized.  After Week 2 scores have been recorded, the flights for the first half of league play and the starting handicaps will be official, and you will be notified via e-mail when that information has been posted to the web site.
