Many Early Net Bogeys in League Play this Week; Larkin Takes Top Spot in Special Event

Three players who played on Monday had long stretches of holes without making a net bogey from the start of their rounds, and two of them made it through the whole round without carding a net bogey.  It came down to a tie-breaker to determine the winner and the runner-up, and Gabriella Larkin finished in first place while Dick Osborne took the runner-up spot.  Bob Means finished in third place with 7 straight holes without a net bogey, and Charleen Micco and Judy Malatesta won the tiebreakers for fourth and fifth place, respectively, among all players who went 4 holes without making a net bogey.  Check out all the results from this week's play on this web site.

Our end-of-year outing is all set for Castle Hills Golf Course, 110 W. Oakwood Way, New Castle, PA on Sunday, September 16, with a 12:00 noon shotgun start.  After golf, we'll stay at Castle Hills for food and three drinks on the league, along with prizes galore!  Should be a lot of fun as we end up the 2018 season.

Neff Puts a Beat-Down On Captain Bogey to Take the Top Spot in the Special Event of the Week

In this week's fun event, each player took on Captain Bogey in match play, and there were two players who beat the Captain by a score of 8 up in their matches.  Donna Neff took top honors by virtue of the handicap tie-breaker, and Dave Cave finished in the runner-up spot.  The three players with the highest handicaps who beat the Captain 7 up and therefore finished in 3rd through 5th place were Paula Lawrence, Carol Guerrera and Mern Roberts, respectively.  To see all the week's results, use the links on this page.

With only two weeks left in the 2018 season, the flight races are up for grabs, and who finishes in the top three spots in each flight will come down to who plays best down the stretch.  Bring your best game to the course and finish strong the next two weeks!

The Only Thing Hotter than the Weather on July 16 was Schuster's Accurate Driving!

It was another blisteringly hot day, but that didn't stop Bill Schuster from hitting seven out of seven fairways with his tee shots to claim top honors in the Special Fun Game of the Week.  Jude Heutsche and Linda Moreland hit six out of seven fairways to take 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, and Gabriela Larkin and Deb Fair won the tiebreakers among the nine league members who hit 5 of 7 fairways to finish in 4th and 5th place, in that order.  There were some very good scores turned in for the week – to see all results from league play in Week # 12 of the season, use the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

See you on Sunday for our Mid-Season Outing!  It'll be a 1:00 pm shotgun start for our 18-hole scramble, with our picnic supper to follow the golf.  Let's celebrate the great golf season we've had so far and look forward to the second half of league competition.

First Half of Season ends with exciting action in all Flights

The June 25 round of play in the Toss'd Greens Golf League marked the end of the first half of the 2018 season.  The top three finishers in each flight win a prize to be distributed at the end-of-season outing in September.  The winners in each flight won't be officially determined until this Sunday night, because league members have until then to submit a golf-out score for the week if they didn't play on Monday.  Click on the "Standings" link at the top of the page and then check out the link for June 25 to see the unofficial standings at the first half.  In Week 9's special event, Carol Osborne won the first place prize with a score of 71 points, Rich Joseph was runner-up with 68 points, and Brandon Benic, Linda Moreland and Mern Roberts rounded out the top five.

Lawrence Partners With Old Man Par to Take Top Honors in Special Event of the Week

With only one week to go in the first half of the 2018 season, the races in six of the ten flights are still up for grabs with the leader ahead by no more than 4 points, so next week promises to be exciting as the first half flight winners are determined.  Be sure to play this coming Monday or have a front-nine golf-out score turned in for the last week of the first half!

Paula Lawrence teamed up with Old Man Par to shoot a better-ball net score of 29 to win the week's fun event; Carol Guerrera also had a net team score of 29, but finished in second place due to the handicap tie-breaker.  With this result, Carol takes over the lead for most winnings in the Special Events so far this season.  Michele Means and Donna Neff tied for third place, with Eileen Buchanan taking fifth this week.  To see the latest results from the league, use the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

The Mid-Season Outing / Field Day for our league will be Sunday, July 8 at Tam O'Shanter.  We will be playing an 18-hole Scramble with a 1:00 pm shotgun start, followed by a picnic dinner after the conclusion of the golf (featuring Barb Carbone's FAMOUS home-made ice cream!).  There will be a sign-up sheet at the front counter at Tam O'Shanter near the register for the next couple of league nights — please sign the sheet and indicate whether you will be coming for both golf and dinner, for dinner only, or if you won't be able to attend the outing this year.  Guests are welcome for $20, and you can sign their names to the sign-up sheet as well.  Should be a lot of fun, so make plans to be there!  PLEASE let us know soon if you will be attending — thank you.

Walters Has Most One-Putts; Just Two Weeks Left in First Half of Season

Bob Walters was the winner with five one-putt greens in the Special Event for Week 7.  Four other league members had four one-putt greens to finish in the 2nd through 5th places:  Elaine Buchanan, Carol Guerrera, Bill Schuster and Blase Cindric.  With just two weeks remaining in the first half of the season, it's time to start thinking about our Mid-Season Outing, scheduled for Sunday, July 8.  This event will be 18 holes of golf followed by a picnic supper with Barb Carbone's famous homemade ice cream for dessert.  Be sure to plan to play in this special league event!  A signup sheet will be available at the course the next three weeks for you to let us know if you will be able to make it.

Joseph Cards Most 6's and 4's on 6/4

The first half of the season is two-thirds complete, and the flight races are taking shape.  Rich Joseph won the special event of the week, having the most gross and net 6's and 4's on his scorecard, with eleven of them.  Judy Movic was runner-up with ten 6's and 4's, and Judy Malatesta, Barb Carbone and Colton Osborne had 9 such scores and won the handicap tiebreaker over one other league member.  All of the results from Week 6 of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

Mark your calendars — our Mid-Season Outing / Field Day will be held on Sunday, July 8 at Tam O'Shanter.  Plan to attend for all the golf and the food and fun after golf.  Details about the outing will be forthcoming in the next several weeks, so stay tuned.

Curic Wins Sudden-Death Playoff on 2nd Hole

The special event this week was a Sudden-Death Playoff involving everyone who played their league round on Monday. On the first hole, there were two players who carded net eagles (Tony Curic and Emma Weingartner), so everyone else was out of the playoff, and the third through fifth place finishers were determined by a handicap playoff among those players that scored a net birdie on # 1.  Then on hole # 2, Emma made a net birdie, but Tony made a net eagle, so Tony won the event.  Mike George came in third in the event, Sam Herskovitz finished fourth and Bill Schuster took the fifth spot.  You can view all results from the May 28th round by using the links at the top and/or right side of this page.

For our next league round, scheduled for Monday, June 4, we will have a special shot-gun start at 5:15 pm for our league play on the back-nine, because Tam O'Shanter is closed until 5 pm for a large golf outing that day.  The shotgun start should be fun – try to attend!  But if you can't play at that time on 6/4, you can always turn in a golf-out score for the week anytime before Sunday, June 10.

Osborne Wins Best Poker Hand Event with Five of a Kind

In the Special Event this week, Charlene Osborne carded five net 5's to post the best poker hand of everyone who played on Monday.  Blase Cindric and Rich Joseph tied for second place with five net 4's; Paula Lawrence and Justin Kraynak each had four net 6's to finish in fourth and fifth place, respectively.  Several of the flight races are very close this year, with Dave Cave holding a 1½ point lead in Flight D, Sam Herskovitz leading Flight F by 1½ points, Mary Rose Marks ahead in Flight G by 1½ points, and Tony Curic leading Lorraine Amos by 1 point in Flight H.  To see the poker hands made from all players' net scores, and all other results of week # 4 of league play, use the links at the top or at the right side of this page.

Wet Conditions Prove Challenging in Week 3; McKnight wins Special Event

Rain in the late morning on May 14 led to soggy conditions for Week # 3 of league action.  Dave McKnight won the special event of the week, with a score of 23 after throwing out his two worst net holes; Joann Bahr was runner-up, followed by Rick McKee, Mike George and Jess Jackal, in that order.  All of the results from the third week of the season can be viewed by using the links at the top or right-hand side of this page.

Micco is Most Accurate Driver on May 7; Races for Top Spot Tight in Most Flights

The standings in seven of the ten flights show the leader with a 3 point lead or less after the first two weeks of league play, with a tie for the top spot in two of the flights.  In this league, it really hurts you if you miss a week of league play without turning in a golf-out score, so be sure to golf out during those weeks that you can't play on Monday.  You can also bank golf-out scores in advance if you know that you'll have to miss on a particular league night.

The special event for the week was most tee shots in the fairway, and new league member Charleen Micco took first place honors by hitting 6 of 7 fairways in her round.  Michele Means, Diane Wiesen, Deb Fair and Carol Guerrera finished in 2nd through 5th place this week via the Handicap Tiebreaker to win a Tam O'Shanter Gift Certificate.  Use the links at the top or right-hand side of the page to see all the results from Week # 2 of league play.

Season Opens on a Day of Nice Weather; Laverty wins Fewest Putts Event

It was pretty nice weather-wise on April 30 for the opening round of play in the Toss'd Greens Golf League for 2018.  About 3/5 of the players played on league night, and several players shot under par after their handicaps were subtracted, getting them off to a good start in their flights.  In the special event of the week, Chuck Laverty was the boss of the moss, needing only 14 putts to complete his round.  Bob Walters was runner-up, tying Chuck with 14 putts but losing the handicap tie-breaker.  Jerry Sanko, Judy Movic and Colton Osborne finished in the third through fifth spots in the special event, each winning a Tam O'Shanter Gift Certificate.  You can view the gross scores, net skins, special event results, Eagle's Club information and season-long statistical summary by using the links at the top and/or right-side of the league home page.

We will calculate new handicaps after each week of league play, so you can see what your handicap will be for next week by clicking on the "Handicaps for Week 2" link in the right-hand column of the league home page.

The flight standings aren't finalized until all league members have a chance to turn in a golf-out score for the week.  If you play a round on the same nine as we played that week (week 1 was on the front nine) you can turn in a score for the week as long as you do it by Sunday night of the week you missed.  You can also turn in scores in advance to be put in the golf-out bank if you know you'll be missing a week in the future.  Just leave your scorecard with the staff at the front desk at Tam O'Shanter.

Second Practice Round Scheduled for April 23

The forecast is a good one for this Monday, so hopefully many league members will tee it up this week at Tam O'Shanter.  Please turn in your scorecard so we can calculate handicaps for the start of the season.  If you know of anyone who's thinking of joining the league this year, please encourage them to play practice rounds this week so they will have a handicap for the first week of league play.  Also, we need everyone's e-mail address so they can be added to the league list.

For 2018, We Have a New Title Sponsor and New Web Site Look!

We are very pleased to announce that our golf league is being sponsored by Toss'd Salad and Pizza Cafe in Hermitage, PA!  Click here to visit the Toss'd web site to check out their menu and specials.  We took a vote at the Season-Opening Party/Mixer at the end of March, and the new league name that got the most votes is the Toss'd Greens Golf League, so that's our official name going forward.  Thanks to our new sponsor, we'll have plenty of great prizes for our weekly fun games this year, and Toss'd will host the league for a special hot dog night after golf on a Monday sometime in the second half of the season — we'll let you know when it's been scheduled.

To thank Toss'd for becoming our league sponsor, we're encouraging all league members to stop in at Toss'd after your round of golf on Monday for drinks and good food, and to brag about your round or get some consolation/teasing from your fellow league members if things didn't go so well that day!  Make it a regular habit to drop in at Toss'd — your new after-golf spot!

We're Having a Season-Opening Party / Mixer at Tam O'Shanter on March 26!

So that everyone has a chance to greet last year's league members and meet some new members who will be joining our league, we're going to have a Start-of-the-Season Party / Mixer event at Tam O'Shanter on Monday, March 26 at 6:00 pm.  The League will pay for a hot dog and chips for everyone; drinks are on you.  Plan to come to the party and meet everyone.  Also, the league officers and scorekeepers will be there so you can ask any questions about how the scoring for league play and the weekly fun games will work, and we can discuss any rule changes that we might make from last year.

Everyone should check out the League Rules and Information page of the web site and also the Example Match Play Scoring page to see the rules and scoring system that will be used for the league this year, so you can bring any questions you might have to the mixer.  Should be the start of a great season of league play!
